Error 1603 when attempting to install QB 2018 Accountant R1 on Windows 10 Build 17063.

On pre-release Windows 10 build 17063 Quickbooks (all versions) is broken. Cannot be updated or installed. I assume it's a .NET issue, however I didn't have this problem with previous pre-release versions after the Creator update which integrated .NET into the OS.

Hi cindy,

Let me help you and ensure this gets resolved.

Error 1603 occurs if there was a problem installing Microsoft .NET Framework. This can also be caused by a damaged Microsoft Windows Installer or QuickBooks Desktop installation.

We'll do some steps to fix this error. Please follow the recommended troubleshooting steps in this article, which will help with repairing or reinstallling .NET Framework: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1501399.

Keep me posted on how things go once you've tried the steps. I'm always here to help.

We've been through every solution we could find. Unfortunately, since the "Creator" update in Windows 10, .NET is integrated and cannot be 'reinstalled' (it may appear that you can, but it really doesn't) We've run the QuickBooks Desktop Diagnostic program to no avail. We see others have this issue but we do not see solutions.

We have tried a clean boot (selective startup) with no joy. When QuickBooks is installing (after license information is entered) the installer fails during "Calculating Space Requirements" every time. Always ends with 1603 error. We're awaiting a solution, thanks.

This whole thing started after a Windows Update the night before - upon starting QB, a dialog box appeared saying there was an update for Quickbooks Pro 2017 (QuickBooks was not up yet - just the Green circle) so I agreed to the update. The update failed and QB would no longer start after that. I uninstalled and attempted to reinstall. 1603. I tried QB Premier 2018 R1 - same story. This is my only machine with this level of Windows 10 (all other production machines have the creators update, but not the build that the machine with the trouble has) I assume this is a disaster in the making unless Intuit or Microsoft gets it figured out.

Search W10 settings for this:

Turn Windows Features on or off

That opens the Pop up.

Enable .net controls here.
