Normally, error 2001 occurs when there's an issue online when sending payroll data. To help resolve the problem, I recommend updating QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release and download the latest payroll tax table update.
To do manual update, here's what you'll need to do:

Once done, try to setup direct deposit on individual employee accounts.

To resolve Error code 2001, you can follow the troubleshooting steps I've provided above. However, if the issue persists, you may need to contact our Customer Care Team. This way, they can do an investigation and provide an additional workaround to fix the error.
