Error Message Portable File

I am getting the error on the attached file when I try to restore a portable file.  Please help!  I need to get this done before tomorrow morning!

Which QuickBooks version (year) do you have? It is possible your QBM file is damaged. Do you have any other backup file to restore? Consider purchasing a 3rd party data recovery service. I notice their price start from $225 and have an option for the priority service. Just my 2 cents.

You can move the file locally where you use QuickBooks so you can successfully restore the portable file. Let me walk you through how.

  1. Open a local folder where you want to save your file. Then, right-click anywhere.
  2. Select New, then Folder.
  3. Enter your desired folder name. Make sure not to use special characters (! " # $ % & ‘ * + , - . / : ; < = > ? @ [ \ ] ^ { | } ~).
  4. Go to the folder where your portable company file or accountant’s copy is saved in.
  5. Right-click on the file, then select Copy.
  6. Open the folder you created. Right-click anywhere, then select Paste.
  7. If the file name has special characters, delete them. (Right-click on the file, then select Rename. Then, make the necessary changes, then click anywhere.)

Once done, restore the file. However, if the same thing happens, you can repair QuickBooks to fix any damaged company file. Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks, then repair it.
  2. Once you’re done, open QuickBooks and retry to restore the file.

Well, this was a wild goose chase to only find out that I need to go to windows to repair an app or remove a program?  It only gives me the option to uninstall the QB program, which I do not want to do as it will take me hours to reinstall it.  Then you said to go to an QB account management page. What is that for??  I browsed to see if there was any pertinent information and I didn't see any.   I really think this is unacceptable for me to have to figure out.

There are possible reasons why you're getting the error message when trying to open a portable file. One of these is the Portable or Accountant's copy, which is being restored over the network or from a damaged folder or from a remote location and the file is larger than 3MB.

 

In order to fix the error, you'll need to move your file to the computer where you use QuickBooks. To get started, kindly update QuickBooks to the latest release to improve its performance and fix issues while using the program.
