I have tried three times to export my data from desktop to online and it continues to pause at the same spot while “preparing your file for the move”. My file is 744k targets so I know it is a large file but i have left it for 12 hours all three times. I have attached a photo to show exactly where is is hung up at. Very frustrating. What are my options here?
You can only use the default feature on QBD to convert data with Total Target < 350K to QBO.

You have to purchase a 3rd party service as a workaround.
I was told if we use quickbooks online advanced that the targets would be up to 750K. Do you know if this is not accurate? Do you have any recommendations for a 3rd party service for the work around. Thanks for the help
Hello, JMCabinets.
I'd also get frustrated if I spend that much time when running a process. With that said, let's work together and fix the hanging export processing time issue.
Just to clarify some details regarding the target limits, you would need to follow what QuickBooks Desktop version you have.
QuickBooks Online Advanced can take targets for up to 750K provided that you're converting from Enterprise (2021 or newer) or Pro and Premier (2018 or newer).
I'll provide the complete limit requirements for all QuickBooks Desktop editions:
Aside from using a third-party conversion service, we can use the Condense Data utility to lower the total targets in your company file. This can help lessen and fix the export processing time when migrating to the Online version.
There are few things you need to know about using the Condense Data utility. Check out this article for more details: Use the Condense Data utility.
When we're ready to run it, go to File, hover on Utilities, then select Condense Data.
This article can also provide more details about managing the targets before migrating: Condense your QuickBooks Desktop file for import to QuickBooks Online.
After successfully migrating your data, be sure to check your financials in QuickBooks Online. We have an article to help you with the checklist: What to do after you move from QuickBooks Desktop for Windows or Mac to QuickBooks Online.
I'd also suggest reading this article to know more about what data is exported from the Desktop version: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
I'm always available if you have other concerns about migrating your data to the Online version. If you do have questions about QuickBooks
I am currently running quickbooks desktop pro 2019. I do have some concerns about condensing my data due to the audit trail and condensing affecting reports.
Thanks for getting back here, JMCabinets.
Allow me to provide additional information about condensing your data.
In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2019, the updated Condensed data feature will help lessen your file size by giving the option to remove the audit trail. However, all your detailed transactions still remain. If you prefer to use the traditional File Condense feature, this will eliminates transaction detail and generate a summarized journal entry for the data prior to the set date. For more information about the feature, please visit this article: Use the Condense Data utility.
Once everything is settled, here's the link that will provide you with detailed steps on how you can condense your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) file for upload to QuickBooks Online (QBO): Condense your QBDT data. When finished, you're now ready to transfer your QBDT data to QBO.
I've also got you here a compilation of QuickBooks help articles that will further guide you in performing your QBDT tasks. Feel free to access them whenever needed.
Just in case you have any other concerns about managing your data, please add a reply below. I'm always willing to help you. Take care and have a good one.

If you just need to migrate your data to QBO Plus or a lower plan, you can purchase a third-party conversion service. Contact us in private for assistance.
I have condensed my QBDT twice and got it down to 434K targets but it still will not upload. I have been running the upload program for about 8 hours currently and it has not moved any further than when i had 744K targets. any suggestions?
Jamespaul,
I am currenlty on desktop 2022, trying to convert to QBO Advanced. I have condensed my file down to 492k targets, but when i try to convert using Ctrl B+Q from the Product Information pop-up, it pops up suggesting I update (which I try and it says no updates.) So i skip the update page, it then says "Good news, your Company File is ready to move Online." I log into my QBO Advance account, and then it pops up and says "Your company file is too large to export. I fit all the parameters you mention here. Is there another trick to make this work? thanks
I am trying to export from QB desktop 2022 to QB Online Advanced. I have condensed my targets down to 492k, i start the export from the Product Info screen by Ctrl+B+Q, log into my QBO account, get started and then it says "My company file is too large to export". I am confused as i hit all the criteria above but it keeps failing. Is there another trick to this?
Thanks for reaching out to us regarding this conversion concern, @pbtgmh.
I wanted to make sure you'll be assisted further with condensing your data properly and making sure the files get converted without any issues.
When you plan to move from QuickBooks Desktop to Online, only files with that meet the required targets can be migrated. This is why shrinking the file size is required sometimes.
If you're using the 2022 file, make sure the company file is on its newest release or version, ensuring it doesn't exceed 750,000 targets. QB 2022's most updated release is R4, see it here for more information.
If the company file is up-to-date but you're still getting the same problem after multiple tries, we do recommend contacting our Support Team. They can share additional troubleshooting for the conversion and can also guide you through the steps. I know contacting support can be time consuming but we need to ensure the right support can help you out with this.
