getting new server need to backup and restore QB's

I have QB's Desktop ProPlus 2019. I have it installed on my server and i am replacing it with a new server. I need to know the process on backing up the existing data and then restoring it on the new server. I need to know how to re-install QB's 2019 on the new server then restore the data.

Last time this was done, someone from QB's was able to do this remotely. I do use Intuit Data protect as a backup and can do a local backup also.

Just need some guidance here. This will be taking place in the next 3-4 weeks

Re: getting new server need to backup and restore QB's

Welcome to the Community, gb53.

I'd be happy to help you create a backup and get your QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus installed.

I can provide you with easy steps on how you can create a backup copy of your company file.

Here's how:

  1. Switch to single user mode. (File > Switch to Single-user Mode).
  2. From the QuickBooks File menu, select Backup Company then Create Local Backup.
  3. On the Create Backup window, select Local Backup then click the Options button.
  4. On the Backup Options window that appears, click Browse and select the location for the backup copy.
NOTE: It's a good idea to save backups somewhere other than your main local drive in case of a system failure. If you have a file hosting service (such as DropBox), flash drive or other removable media, you may want to select it here.
  5. When you have chosen, click OK.
  6. Look over the other options on this page and select any that you like. Each option is explained in detail below. Click OK when you're done.
  7. In the Create Backup window, click Next.
  8. Choose whether to save your backup now, schedule future backups, or both:

After that, before installing and using QuickBooks Desktop, it is important to know the necessary system requirements. This will ensure that QuickBooks is compatible with computers and will help avoid problems when you start using the program.

To install QuickBooks Pro Plus:

  1. Download QuickBooks Desktop.
Note: If the installation doesn't automatically start, double-click the installer file (e.g. QuickBooksPro2018.exe) to continue.
  2. Select Yes to All. Select Next.
  3. Agree to the Software License Agreement, then select Next.
  4. Enter your License and Product numbers, then select Next.
  5. Select the type of installation for the computer.
    • Option 1: Express: this allows the installer to make the recommended choices for you. If you choose this option, skip to Step 9.
    • Option 2: Custom and Network Options: choose this if you'll be using multiple versions of QuickBooks Desktop on the computer or if you'll use QuickBooks to share data with other users on a network.
  6. Select where you will be using QuickBooks.
    • Option 1: I'll be using QuickBooks on this computer.
    • Option 2: I'll be using QuickBooks on this computer, and I'll be storing our company file here so it can be shared over our network.
    • Option 3: I won't be using QuickBooks on this computer. I will be storing our company file on this computer so it can be shared over a network.
  7. Choose a new install location or select Next to install to the default directory.
  8. Select Install.
  9. Select Open QuickBooks to get started.
  10. Activate QuickBooks and you're all set.

You can get detailed information in this article: Install QuickBooks Desktop.

Once done, the following steps will help and guide you restore your backup file.

Here's how:

  2. Select Restore a backup copy. Then select Next.
  3. Choose Local Backup. Then select Next.
  4. From the Look In the drop-down, choose the location of the backup file.

  6. Select Open. Then select Next.
  7. From the Save in the drop-down, choose the location where you want to save the restored file.
  8. In the File name field, type a new file name. (Note: The Save as type field will automatically populate QuickBooks Files (*.QBW).
