The icon will automatically be added to your desktop screen after you've installed a program or software and saved it in your desktop location.
You can also do any changes in your control panel which gives the ability to view and change your system settings. I suggest reaching out to your IT guy for other ways on how to add the icon.
On the other hand, if you want to create a QuickBooks Online (QBO) icon shortcut where you can log in to your account, this is unavailable. You'll want to use a web browser to access your account since QBO is a cloud-based software.
