How is the Banking Apps section in QBO used?

I just noticed Banking Apps today, so I'm guessing it's at least fairly new.  But there's no indication whatsoever on how to use it.  I do see a mention of Amazon in Manage Settings, but nothing else.  Can someone point me to some detail on it?

It's good to know that you're interested in this feature, oceanbeachesglass.

To give you a quick overview, the Banking Apps is used to integrate Amazon to QuickBooks Online (QBO). This helps QBO users to easily download their transactions from Amazon.

Just a heads up, this feature is still on the testing process and not all QBO users has this option. Our engineers are still doing further research before we officially launch this feature.

In the meantime, I'd suggest using a third-party app to integrate your Amazon account to QBO until we formally launch this feature. You can search supported apps through the Apps tab.

Please let me know if you have other questions. Have a wonderful day!

Re: How is the Banking Apps section in QBO used?

Hi josh6,

You can disconnect an app from the App Center. I'll guide you through how.

  1. Click Apps.
  2. Click the app you want to disconnect (Amazon) under My Apps.
  3. Click Settings, and then the Action drop-down.
  4. Click Disconnect. Complete the short questionnaire.
  5. Click Disconnect to remove the app from your company file.

Once done, verify your downloaded applications under the My Apps section. Go to Apps, and then My Apps at the top.

Feel free to check our page for future reference regarding: Banking and bank feeds.

The Amazon integration isn't listed under myApps.

Good to see you here in the Community, @mattyb.

To disconnect the Amazon app, you'll need to perform the process through the Banking menu.

Here's how you can disconnect Amazon:

1. Go to Banking menu.

2. Select the blue tile for your Amazon Apps.

3. Click the pencil ✏️ icon to edit the account.

4. Select Disconnect, then this redirect to the Amazon website.

5. Use your Amazon website info to sign in.

6. Go to Statements & Activity.

7. Choose Connect to QuickBooks.

8. Scroll down the page and then select Disconnect Account.

You can refer to this article for more detailed steps about disconnecting of Apps from QuickBooks, please refer to this article: Disconnect an Account from the Downloaded Transactions Page.

At this time, the Amazon Apps integration with QuickBooks Online is currently not available. You can refer to the QuickBooks Apps site to see more of the listed apps supported in QuickBooks Online.

right, I was able to sign out of the amazon banking app by signing out of amazon.com in separate browser window, then refreshing the transactions in the amazon banking apps section.

Re: How is the Banking Apps section in QBO used?

I don't think this addresses Johs6's question - at least not if he's referring to the "Banking Apps" tab within Banking that the original question was about.

I've been wondering the same thing.  Although the "Banking App" doesn't seem to do anything, apparently it knows how to get to my Amazon Business account - though it seems to actually be able to do it only once.

I've also been wondering why a section like Banking Apps would even appear in QBO if it's non-functional and still being tested, as AlexV stated.

Thanks for joining this conversation, oceanbeachesglass.

Our developers introduced the Amazon Integration application for beta testing which can be found by going to the Banking menu at the left pane, then Banking Apps tab and they are releasing this to QuickBooks Online (QBO) users by batch. This way, they can evaluate the level of customer satisfaction and verify the readiness to deploy a new product, feature, or improvement within our program.

Rest assured that I'm going to forward a follow-up regarding this to our Product Developers and will inform you in this post. I also recommend visiting our Blog and be the first one to know about any updates that you'll find beneficial for your business.

Re: How is the Banking Apps section in QBO used?

I would like to comment.

First, is the "Amazon Integration application" you mention the same thing as the "Banking Apps" that appears under "Banking"?

Second, why is there absolutely no explanation of what it does?  In the new "Receipts" section (also under Banking), there's a "New" flag that points it out, and there's also sorts of help available to show how to use it.  For "Banking Apps", there's virtually nothing.  There's a mention of Amazon under Manage Settings, and there's the Sync icon - and that's it.

I do have an Amazon Business account, and I have used their Invoicing feature - but have found it far too tedious to try to cope with without some kind of software.  In that regard, it seemed like this app might be a great idea.  I even got it to bring in some data from Amazon once, about 2 months ago, though the data didn't remain in QBO.

So what's most confusing to me is that QBO is doing a great job on some new features, also doing a great job on trying to sign me up for features I have no interest in (e.g., "Capital"), but keeping the "Banking apps" shrouded in mystery.  Why would these various features be handled so differently?

Re: How is the Banking Apps section in QBO used?

Hello, @oceanbeachesglass.

Allow me to help share information about how the Banking Apps and the Receipts tab under the Banking page work in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

As mentioned by AlexV above, the Banking Apps is used to integrate Amazon (bank) to QuickBooks Online (QBO) which helps users to easily download transactions from the bank. If you've connected your account,  QuickBooks will automatically download and categorizes your bank and credit card transactions for you. Then all you have to do is approve the work.

For further details about the online banking features in QBO, you can check this article: How to use Online Banking, Connect Bank Accounts, and Review your Bank Feed in QuickBooks Online.

On the other hand, the Receipts tab is used to manage and match your expense receipts all in one place. To learn more, you can check this article: Manage your receipts in the Receipts tab.

Let me know if you have any other questions about how these features work in QBO. I'm always available to help however I can!

Re: How is the Banking Apps section in QBO used?

I think you missed my point.  I was contrasting just how much differently the two are being presented to users.

With "Receipts", there is plenty of information as to how to use it.  In fact, the amount of information on how to use it may actually be overkill.

With "Banking Apps", there's next to no information.  There's no apparent way to connect my Amazon Business account - there has been no option to connect it, no option to disconnect it - nothing.  Only an option to sync, which, as I said, has only worked once - and even that information has disappeared.

With "Banking Apps", there's no Help or any kind of Support documentation.  Take a look at the screenshot attached:

1. there are tabs for Review, in Quickboooks, and Excluded, with no information in any of them

2. there's a Sync icon in the upper left, with which I can see that I updated it a few days ago (I keep trying the sync, hoping that something happens, but still have no data)

3. there's "Manage Settings" in the upper right, which only lets me choose what Account the data goes into

4. there's a gear icon, but that only allows a change in pagination

There has been no opportunity to connect to my Amazon Business account.  In the Banking tab, there's clearly an "Add Account" icon.  In Banking Apps, there's not.  I've also tried adding my Amazon Account using the "Add Account" icon in Banking, but the only options that appear concerning Amazon are a couple of credit cards.

You state, "Banking Apps is used to integrate Amazon (bank) to QuickBooks Online (QBO) which helps users to easily download transactions from the bank.  If you've connected your account,  QuickBooks will automatically download and categorizes your bank and credit card transactions for you. Then all you have to do is approve the work".  What?  I'm going to get bank and credit card transactions from my Amazon account???  I think we must be talking about two different things!

This is getting frustrating.  I was hopeful that there would be some function soon with "Banking Apps" after the initial answer I got from AlexV, but there's been no change.  And it seems that every other answer is only providing links for totally unrelated things.  e.g., how is "How to use Online Banking" going to help, when Banking Apps is apparently a separate function?

The bottom line is that I don't think that functions that are totally non-functional should even appear in QBO.  I've been really impressed at many of the features in QBO, and am surprised that something like Banking Apps would be allowed to be just sitting there doing absolutely nothing.

Re: How is the Banking Apps section in QBO used?

Just one more thing - maybe we are talking about two different things.  Here's a screen shot that shows the popup I get when I hover over Banking.  There's clearly Banking, Banking Apps, Rules and Receipts.  It's THIS "Banking Apps" I'm referring to, NOT one of the Apps available to add on to QBO.

Hi, oceanbeachesglass.

Thank you for providing such detailed information. I'd be glad to point you in the right direction.

I appreciate the screenshots you've provided. As referenced by my peer above, the Banking Apps is used to integrate Amazon to QuickBooks Online. This helps QBO users to easily download their transactions from Amazon. However, this feature is still on the testing process.

Re: How is the Banking Apps section in QBO used?

I just thought of something.  Is it possible that Banking Apps is for downloading transactions for businesses that SELL on Amazon, rather than businesses that BUY from Amazon?  If that's the case, I'd really rather not even have Banking Apps appear in QBO.  There's plenty on there already that I don't - and won't ever - use.

But still, if it is for businesses that BUY from Amazon, why is it even there's if it's still in testing and is entirely non-functional?

Re: How is the Banking Apps section in QBO used?

I appreciate you asking clarifications regarding the Banking apps section in QBO, @oceanbeachesglass.

Yes, the feature is used to download Amazon purchases or expenses. You will only have the option if your account has opted in to test new features, which is available before under QuickBooks Lab.

Since you want this removed, let me send a feedback to our developers. They are the ones handling enhancements and updates on our product.

Also, I'll let you know if there are any changes by posting to this thread. In the meantime, I recommend checking out our Blog to learn more about what’s new in QuickBooks Online.

Re: How is the Banking Apps section in QBO used?

Well I'm not a developer for Intuit but it's working for me. Since we buy a ton a of supplies on Amazon, I really appreciate the early access app, which is free. Categorizing Amazon purchases can be a slow and arduous process without the banking app early access. Of course I could shell out more money for a 3rd party Amazon integration app but i refuse to spend more money. Fwiw, the greenbacks app is really good too for Amazon purchases.

Re: How is the Banking Apps section in QBO used?

Thanks for the input - that's exactly what I was hoping it would do.  You're entirely correct in what kind of challenge it can be to process Amazon purchases.  And I've tried using their invoicing, and that's incredibly tedious without some kind of software.

In my version of the app, though, there's no apparent way to even enter my Amazon Business account - and, of course, nothing that explains how to.  How did you enter yours?  Mine does go through the sync process - but I have no idea what it might be syncing with.

And the Greenbacks app is what I'm currently using.  It's great for getting the transaction details into QBO, but I'm hoping the Banking App is something more.

Thanks.

Re: How is the Banking Apps section in QBO used?

Thanks for the input.

I want it removed - IF it's not going to do anything.  If there's some way to get it to work, I'd love to try it.

And again, I'll say that I think it seems odd that QBO would add something like this that has no apparent function and no way to add/edit anything like my Amazon Business customer number.

Re: How is the Banking Apps section in QBO used?

Hi oceanbeachesglass,

As of now, the feature you're looking for is unavailable. While there's no exact time frame when this feature will be released, you can try Alex's suggestion using a third-party app to integrate your Amazon account to QBO.

I'm going to forward this to our product team so this might get a chance of being added on future updates.
