How to migrate from Quicken 2017 on PC to Quickbooks Mac 2019 Desktop

I have a Quicken 2017 file on PC and am trying to migrate to a trial version of Quickbooks Mac 2019 Desktop. I have converted the file to Quickbooks and successfully opened it in a trial version of Quickbooks Pro 2019 on the PC. Then I clicked Utilities/Copy Company File for Quickbooks Mac to create a file for the Mac version. When I try to open that file on the Mac it asks for an Admin password...but the only password I used on the PC Quickbooks trial installation was the one with the installation instructions. That doesn't work to open the file on the Mac. How can I open the PC Quickbooks file on Quickbooks Mac 2019 desktop? I will purchase the Mac version if I can successfully transfer this company file.

Let's work together and get this sorted out, Daveg56313.

The latest versions of QuickBooks requires a password. Since you're using the trial version, the tool wouldn't work because it cannot be registered.

Instead, we can do the following:

  1. Open the company file in QuickBooks Pro 2019, and set up a QuickBooks Desktop administrator and password.
  2. Create a backup copy of your company file, and then restore it in QuickBooks for Mac 2019.
  3. Then, use the password we created in QuickBooks Pro 2019 to log in to QuickBooks for Mac 2019.

After you've finished, you can explore the latest features by checking out what’s new in QuickBooks for Mac 2019.

You can always reach out to us if there's anything else you need. Thanks.

Hi there, @Daveg56313!

You have the option to reset your Admin password so you can access your file successfully. I'm here to help you accomplish this.

To start with:

  1. On your QuickBooks Login screen, click the Forgot Password hyperlink.
  2. Enter all the necessary information.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Type in the code you receive through email.
  5. Select OK.

Now, QuickBooks will guide you through in creating your new Admin password.

In addition, here's an article you can read to learn more about how you can reset your password: Reset Password for QuickBooks Mac Desktop.

I never see the Login screen. I am using trial versions of Quickbooks Mac 2019 and Quickbooks Pro 2019.

Thanks for the follow-up, @Daveg56313.

I'd be happy to help provide additional details about resetting the password of your QuickBooks trial version.

Since there's no login screen on your Mac trial to click the Forgot Password hyperlink, let's download the password reset tool instead. You can use this to reset your QuickBooks Admin password in QuickBooks Pro 2019. Once done, you can use the password on the Mac trial version.

Click this link to download the tool: Automated Password Reset Tool for QuickBooks Desktop.

That should do it. If you're ready to purchase the Mac version, I'd recommend checking out this helpful link to get you started: Getting Started for QuickBooks Desktop Mac.

Keep me posted if you have additional questions about opening your company file. I'm here to help however I can.

The tool doesn't recognize the license number used for the trial version, so I am unable to download it.
