You're correct, atabak.

We're unable to convert a company file from an old or unsupported version of QuickBooks to QBO. You'll need to move your file temporarily to a trial version of 2020 where you can migrate your file. Here's how:

  1. Create backup copy of your company file in QuickBooks 2015. Use this article as a guide: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
  2. Install the QuickBooks 2020 trial version using the link that is provided here: Download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Restore the backup copy by following the steps in this article: Restore a backup of your company file.
  4. Lastly, use this guide to migrate your data to your QBO account: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

Also, please check out these articles that will share the next steps after migrating over to QBO:

Let me know if you need additional guidance when working in the online version. We're always here to offer our help.

@atabak

Prior to proceed to migrate, make sure to click the Buy button to get the discounted price for up to 6 months. If you purchase from the trial account, you have to pay the regular price.

Thanks for sending.  I followed the steps but the restored file, nor the original file recognize the username/password we've been using to login, when trying to open in the 2020 desktop version.  Any suggestions?  thanks!

Thanks for keeping me updated about this, @atabak.

In this case, I recommend resetting your login credentials using the Automated password tool for QuickBooks Desktop. You may access your QuickBooks Desktop 2015 file and modify the credentials from there. This way, you'll be able to have new login information and start creating the backup and restore it on the 2020 version.

Once done, you may now start restoring the back up then migrate it the Online version. I've attached here the steps that you're going to follow so you can accomplish these processes:

I'm also adding here an article that contain video tutorials on how you can navigate QBO together with its great features: Video tutorials for QuickBooks Online.

I'll be around to lend a helping hand if there's anything else you need. Keep safe, atabak.
