How to set up email on QB MAC Desktop 2016? No preferences on menu. Help is no help.

I have moved from PC to Mac and therefore converted all my files to my new Mac Desktop 2016 Quickbooks. 

 Trying to send out invoices gives me the message "This email application is not supported with this version of QuickBooks. To use this feature you must have Mail or Outlook set as your default email application. See Help for E-Mail requirements"  I have Mail set up.  

Help says" Did you set up an email account? Your email program must be installed and an email account created before you can send email through QuickBooks. Check the Help for your email program for instructions on setting up your email account. If you have more than one email account, QuickBooks uses the default account.

What does that mean?

Apple mail>preferences>general, confirm mail is your default email reader.

i use gmail.  But I assume Apple Mail is the icon with the postage stamp, and that is set up.  Followed your instructions above, but that did not change the response when I tried to email an invoice.  Don't know why they have to make the Mac version so difficult.

Your gmail account has to be setup in Apple Mail.

I do not understand.  My gmail emails are showing up on the Apple Mail, if tha tis what the postage stamp icon thing is.

I was going to call Intuit today, so of course today it worked.  I don't understand any of this, but thanks for all your help.

Sending invoices only uses Mac Mail, will not default to Entourage, even though all settings are correct. QB2014 works fine, QB2016 does not.

I am here to help you get this sorted out. The Apple Mail depends on whichever default email reader you've set up in QuickBooks. Though, we usually use the QuickBooks credential when login. To check the default email reader from the Apple mail, here's how: 

 

  1. Click Apple Mail
  2. Select Preferences
  3. On the Preferences pane, tap General
  4. Confirm if what is your default email account.
