I am using QB Online desktop app. The columns and white space are overly large and I am unable to view the page on a single screen. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Community @anderlandqb.

I'm here to help you get this QBO Desktop app issue sorted out and get you back to business.

I've checked our records and we haven't received similar cases reported to us. Let's isolate program issues like this by clearing the QuickBooks App's cache. Here's how:

  1. Click the Help icon on your app.
  2. Select Reset App Data.

You can also read through our help article: QuickBooks App for Windows and Mac: General support. It contains the basic troubleshooting steps that will help you fix the App issue.

If the issue persists, you can also re-install the app. Check out this article: Get QuickBooks Mac & Windows Apps, powered by QuickBooks Online. Just scroll down to get the QuickBooks Mac or Windows App, and click Free Download.

Let me know if you have further questions about this process. I'll be around to help you. Have a great day!

Thank you.

Re-installing the app helped somewhat, however, for example, the Bank and Credit Card page still contains an incredible amount of unnecessary white space and still spans across my entire screen and partly onto the next screen.  Even if I maximize the app to fill the entire screen, I am not able to view all of the information on the page without scrolling to the right.  I have a 23" monitor with resolution set at 1080 x 1920, which is the recommended setting for this monitor and which is a comfortable size for all of my other tasks.

I am not a tablet user and don't need the white space to accommodate fat finger computing,

I have used QBooks Desktop since 1999 and only recently switched to QBooks Online Desktop. As you probably know, there's a fair amount of transitioning that occurs and I have slowly figured out how things work in QB Online, but the need to scroll every time I want to hit "save" or "send" is very annoying.

Is there any solution that allows me to choose a "compact" display setting?

Thanks!

Re: I am using QB Online desktop app. The columns and white space are overly large and I am unabl...

Hi lawman199,

The column sizes were changed after the recent update in QuickBooks. This happens when you access QuickBooks in a browser as well. Though we're unable to change this, there's a way to see the entire width of the register.

You can hide the Navigation bar to view the full width of the register. If the table columns do not align with the column names, which rarely happens, you can adjust the width of the QBO app window. This step will re-align the columns.

On the other hand, I'm relaying your feedback about this to our engineers.

Please let me know how if you have other questions in mind.

Thank you.  I was aware of the option of closing the Navigation Bar, but then, of course, you lose the convenience of having the Navigation Bar to quickly get where you want to go.  Both scrolling to the right each time and closing (and then, re-opening) the Navigation Bar are extra clicks that are very annoying.   I am hoping that your engineers can come up with a "compact" setting for us desktop users, who don't need the white space that is useful on a phone or tablet.
