I have desktop PC and laptop PC, both have QBDT. The laptop is getting broken, so I'd like to install QB on another PC. Is there anything I should to on broken laptop PC?

You're most welcome, @system. To clarify, that only applies to install/reinstall QuickBooks to the same computer.

In your case, you can directly install QuickBooks Desktop on your new computer. Make sure you have a backup copy of your company file saved on a flash drive or an external device to physically move the files to your new computer.

You can follow the steps in Move your company file to another computer outlined in this article:  https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/manage-data/move-your-company-files-to-another-com...

If you don't have a backup copy of your company file, you'll need to create a new one. However, if you have Intuit Data Protect (IDP) subscription, I'd suggest you contact our Customer Care team to help you restore the backup copy of your file.

You can reinstall your license to any computer any time as long as you can activate it. Make sure you can login to your CAMPS.

Hi, plung.

Thank you for your response.

I'm wondering how intuit manage the limitation of the number of install.

I read that one user can install QBDT on one desktop and one laptop.

If I reinstall QBDT in another laptop, that's mean I've installed one desktop, two laptops at the same time.

Is it ok to reinstall QBDT before uninstalling from the broken laptop?

Hi system,

For a single user, your license entitles you to install the software to two computers provided you own both systems. Let me guide you on how to reinstall QuickBooks.

  1. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooks.exe).
  2. Follow the onscreen instructions. Accept the software license agreement and then click Next.
  3. Enter your Product and License numbers. Then click Next.

Please check this article for more information and detailed steps: Move To Or Reinstall QuickBooks Desktop In Another Computer.

I have these Help Article in case you have questions about QuickBooks Desktop: Account Management.

If you purchased a single user license (by Subscription or by makinga one-time upfront payment depending on your location and the purchase options available to you) or a single user add-on pack license, you may install the Software for access and use solely by 1 specific person on: (i) 1 primary computer, and (ii) 1 additional computer (e.g., a laptop or a home computer that you own and use in your business) for use by that same specific person.

You may try to install it in on your new computer as long as you are not using multi-user mode.

Hi Plung,

Thank you for your help. I forgot to respond to you about accessing the CAMPS.

I can log in the CAMPS, thank you.

So, according your help, we can install QBDT in 3 computers unintentionally.

Is it right?

Thanks for getting back to us, @system

Yes, you can install QBDT and move your company file to another computer as mentioned by @plung. Just ensure that you're using it as a single user mode as the configuration will not be copied if you're using QuickBooks Desktop in a multi-user setup.

Here are the things that you need to do to reinstall or move your  QuickBooks Desktop installation:

  • Ensure you have your product and license information ready.
  • Uninstall existing QuickBooks program before the reinstall.
  • Download the installation files or insert the CD on the computer where you want QuickBooks Desktop installed.
  • Install QuickBooks Desktop as you normally would. For more information, you can follow the steps in this article: Install QuickBooks Desktop

You can also read through the help article provided above by my colleague @MariaSoledadG about moving or reinstalling QBDT to another computer. It covers everything you'll need to know about the whole re-installation process.

Feel free to message us again if you have additional questions. We're always glad to help you further.

Hi, katherinejoyceO

Thank you for responding to my question.

I have one question.

You wrote;

  • Uninstall existing QuickBooks program before the reinstall.

But if I can't access existing QBDT because the PC is crashed, how should I do?
