The QuickBooks Community has your back. I can assist with opening that file. A QBX file is an accountant’s transfer copy of a QuickBooks company file. If a client has sent you a QBX file, you cannot use it until you either convert it to a “regular” accountant’s copy file (QBA) or a company file (QBW). To convert it simply follow these steps:

You will need to exchange Pro for Accountant. If you just purchased in error Intuit should make an exchange for you.
Only the Desktop Accountant version can convert the client supplied accountant's copy to a working file and then create the change file to send back.
You need to have QB Desktop Accountant version
If you wish to get a one time license, you have to purchase thru a partner/reseller.
I am using Quick Books Pro 2020. You indicate click File and select Accountants copy.
When I open QB there is no option for file but open or restore. There has to be more clarify of opening a QBX file

This file is a client's accountant's copy that needs to be converted into a working file (.QBA). Doing this will help you make changes to the client's books.
Also, you need to use an accountant version of QuickBooks. If not, you won't be able to work with the file. And, your client should also use QuickBooks Desktop Pro so you can open the file.

I am running QB Accountant Desktop 2019 (as a license under/with my accountant). I want to buy/have my own license and was hoping I could buy QB Desktop Pro 2021 and restore my company file from the Accountant Desktop to Desktop Pro and was wondering if this will work before investing the $399 for Pro? You can back up a company file from your QuickBooks Accountant Desktop 2019, and then restore it in Desktop Pro 2021.
