May I ask if you’re trying to upgrade your Self-Employed account to the Online version? If so, you’ll first need to create a new QuickBooks Online (QBO) account. From there, you can move your data from the Self-Employed to the Online version. Please take note you can only move your transactions and miles info.

To start a new QBO company:

  1. Go to
  2. Choose your plan in the Small Business section.
  3. Enter your Intuit login credentials.
  4. Complete the signup process.

Once done, you can export the transactions and trips to a .CSV file. Here are the steps:

  1. Sign in to your Self-Employed account.
  2. Choose the Export icon at the upper right. This is located above the Category/Type on the Transactions or Mile/Trips page.
  3. All the transactions from the currently selected time range, search criteria, account, and other categories are exported to the file.
  4. Review the exported file in the Downloads folder.

For detailed steps about this process, visit this article:

After that, you can move the data to QBO. To perform the steps, see the Step 2 section through this article: Transfer Data.

Once everything is all set, you can now switch to the Online version and cancel your Self-Employed account. You can watch step-by-step videos to help you get started through this helpful link: Setting Up.

Stay in touch with me if there’s anything else you need. Wishing you and your business continued success.
