Hello there, @macuser77.

Thanks for your response. I attempted to follow your directions and was not successful. I do not have Excel, so I opened my CSV file in Numbers and "copied all." I then opened my company file in QB Mac and the transactions menu opened to a sub menu that did not indicate an appropriate choice (see attached screen shot) . What am I missing? Hello there, @macuser77.

You can select the form IIF Files options so that you can import chart of accounts in QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Download and install the .IIF import kit
  2. Select the Save button to download the IIF_Import_Kit.zip file to your Windows desktop.
  3. Use any compatible file compression utility to extract the contents of the downloaded file. The contents will automatically extract into a subfolder called.IIF Import Kit.
  4. Open the IIF Import Kit folder to view its contents.

For more detailed information, you can refer to this article for more reference: IIF Overview: Import Kit, Sample Files, and Headers.

Also, you can check out this article for other tasks that IIF files can do: Tasks You Can Do With IIF Files.

You wrote to import it to my Windows desktop.  I purchased QB Desktop for MAC 2020 for the Mac I am running on.  The toolkit had no app that I could find to open and import my CSV file. Sorry, but I am completely baffled by what I thought would be a simple CVS file input. Please advise. Thx

Hi there, macuser77.

For now, we can only use CSV to import the following list and transactions:

  • Customers
  • Vendors
  • Employees
  • Invoices
  • Deposits
  • Sales receipts
  • Credit memos
  • Payments
  • Checks
  • Bills
  • Credit card charges

You can go to this link to download and edit the sample .IIF Files. Then, use it to import your chart of accounts: Import lists into QuickBooks with IIF.

I would also recommend reaching out to our Technical Support Team for QuickBooks for Mac. They're open in between Monday to Friday, from 6 AM to 6 PM, PT. Here's how:

  3. Click Company File, then scroll-down a little bit and click Start a Message.
