Hello there, @friendlyfc.

At this time, being able to set Chrome as the default browser on your QuickBooks isn't available. QuickBooks recommends using Internet Explorer (IE) when downloading bank transactions from the bank to the system. It is also the default browser when accessing internet and other online services, LMT223.

For those users whose bank's website doesn't support IE, you have the option to bring the transactions manually. You can prepare a web connect (.QBO) file from your bank's website, then import the transactions to QBDT, so they become available in your bank feeds.

For your reference about importing your trnsacions, you can check this article: Import web connect (.qbo) files.

I'm also adding here a link that you can visit about how bank feeds work in QBDT: Download Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

We are still considering to have the ability to set Chrome or other supported browsers as the default browser of the system. I'll personally take note of this preference and send it to product engineers so they can assess the suggestion.

Leave a comment below if you have any other questions. I'm always here available to help. Have a good day!

Yes, please do pass this along to your team.  Ridiculous that this isn't a preference that can be set in the software itself.  I appreciate your help.

Yes, please do take this comment back to your team. Seems ridiculous that this isn't a preference setting in the software itself.  Thank you for your help.

Hello there, MWMupdate2020.

The updates in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) depends on the assessments made for the possible fix of an issue or add-on features. Since this has been already added as feedback to our product engineers. We'll wait for the upcoming updates.

As of the moment, to optimize your experience with Internet Explorer, I'd recommend updating or upgrading to the supported IE version. After that, you can update your QBDT to the latest release.

You can always tap on us if you need anything else. We're here to help. Take care.

Please consider changing the Default Browser in QBDT 2020 Pro.  Many Major Financial Institutions no longer support Internet Explorer 11.  This means Bank Feeds no longer work nor activation of new feeds.

This looks poorly upon Intuit

Please consider making available Chrome, Edge and Firefox.

Dear QB Team,

I'm not sure if you all even read the actual questions but please get this fixed. Other software is becoming more and more attractive and I have used QB a very long time now.

Hello there, oakman2000,

If your bank's website doesn't support Internet Explorer, you have the option to bring the transactions manually using the web connect (.QBO) file from your bank's website.

Here's how:

  1. From the QuickBooks File menu, select Utilities then Import and then Web Connect Files.
  2. Select the QBO file you saved, then select Open.
  3. When prompted to Select Bank Account, select:
    • Use an existing QuickBooks account if the account you are importing the transactions into is already set up in QuickBooks.
    • Create a new QuickBooks account if the account you are importing the transactions into is not yet in QuickBooks. Type a name.
  4. Select Continue. You should see a dialogue box telling you that the data has been successfully read into QuickBooks. Select OK.
  5. Go to the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions.

Check out this article for future reference: Fix Web Connect import errors.

Yes QB definitely needs a feature to allow customers to choose a web browser!  Especially considering now that numerous banks will not allow bank feeds through Internet Explorer.  I have a several banks who are requiring a switch to Chrome and as the customer, QB should allow us this option.  Web Connect is extra steps we shouldn't have to take if we opt for the bank feed option.

This doesn't work. I deactivated my online banking feed to the chase account thinking it was that. Now when I want to manually import them I have to re-activate that account which requires signing in which Chase will not allow from IE11. This is beyond frustrating. I can not enter each entry manually. It is bad enough doing the import. Can anyone help me with this?

This did not work for me because when I had an issue I deactivated my online banking feed incase it was that which it wasn't. Now when I go to import the webconnect file I have to chose an account and this chase account has to be activated again which I can not do as Chase will not allow a sign in on IE11. SO how am I suppose to do this? I can not enter each manually it is bad enough doing the importing web connect. Can anyone help me with getting the chase acct reactivated for online bank feeds so I can atleast download my manual imports?
So annoyed...

Thanks!

Thanks for the detailed information, kperki.

Direct Connect allows QuickBooks to send information to your FI and download data directly from it. Web Connect, on the other hand, uses your web browser and allows the receiving of data that are manually exported from your bank and is imported into QuickBooks.

You have the option to download a Web Connect file outside QuickBooks and use Google Chrome. Here's how:

  1. Open a web browser and go to your bank’s website.
  2. Sign in to your bank account using your normal process.
  3. Download your transactions as a QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) file.

Before you import your transactions, let's update QuickBooks to the latest release to have up-to-date features and fixes. Once you have the Web Connect file, follow the steps to import it into QuickBooks Desktop.

You can also reach out to our Phone Support Team so we can address your concern immediately. Just look into our support hours

I have tried all of that.. This is the same reply that is posted when everyone has a problem regarding this.My quickbooks is up to date.

When I go through all of those steps and get to the step select bank account. I already have an existing account set up. As I stated I deactivated the online bank feed as I thought that was the issue and was going to re-do it. I can not reactivate it since chase does not let me sign into IE. When I click use an existing account the account I need to use is not there.  Im sure because of the above reasons. I do not want to create a new account and then have two accounts. How am I supposed to get my qbo files in here.

I know that this hasn't been easy for you, kperki.

I also appreciate all the efforts that you've exhausted just to get this working. We can go to your Chart of Accounts then manually activate your bank account without connecting to online banking. This way, we'll be able to successfully import your bank transactions.

I'll guide you how:

  1. Select Lists from the top menu bar.
  2. Choose Chart of Accounts.
  3. Click the Include inactive option at the bottom.
  4. Find the appropriate bank account, then click the X icon to activate the account.
  5. You can also right-click the account, then select Make account Active.

Once done, let's import the transactions so they'll become available in your Bank Feeds Center. Then, we'll have to review and categorize them.

I encourage reading this our Reconciliation Guide to help keep your QuickBooks account balanced and up-to-date.

As always, you can find me here if you have any other concerns or follow-up questions. Assistance is just a post away.

The BANK FEEDS PORTION OF THE ACCOUNT IS INACTIVE. Not the account itself, the BANK FEEDS! This is so painful dealing with you people, nobody can read and figure this out. Can someone actually read the problem and help with out your cookie cutter copy and paste response, actually think and process this...

I understand this wasn't an easy process for you, @kperki.

Thanks for providing more details about your concern. I've got steps you can perform to get around the bank feeds issue in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

You may convert the downloaded transactions using the Intuit Interchange Format (IIF) file format. Doing this can make the import process easier.

First, convert the downloaded transactions to the IIF file format using a different browser like Google Chrome, etc. You may consult an IT person to help you with the process. Please check out this resource for more info about IIF files: Overview about IIF files.

Once done, you're good to go importing the file to QBDT. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your company file as an admin.
  2. Go to the File menu, and then select Switch to Single-user Mode.
  3. Make a backup of your company file to prevent any accidental data loss.
  4. Go to the File menu again and then chooseUtilities.
  5. Click Import, and then pick Import IIF Files.
  6. Browse to your IIF file, and then tap Open.
  7. Hit OK to confirm your data was imported.

Visit this resource for more details: Import II files.

Once done bringing in your transactions, you can categorize and match them to prevent duplicates.

Then, reconcile them to ensure your books are accurate and all are accounted for correctly.

It is absurd to me that the answer you have given me would require me to hire an IT person or have that knowledge myself. If I had those technology skills I highly doubt I would be on here asking for help.  There has to be another solution that does not involve something complex. I don't understand how you can charge me for a program that I now must have an IT person help me in order to import files into the program. Please provide me with a solution to this problem that is realistic and doable. I know I am not the only one out there having this issue.

Am so tired of manually loading my data. Please have them change browser to Chrome. I was able to download transactions until I upgraded to 2018 version. Have been using Quickbooks for over 20 years and this is really frustrating!!! The only one it won't work with is Chase bank which is my main checking account.

IE 11 is not deemed outdated by Microsoft, and has been replaced by MS Edge. When is QBDT updating this, as the process of having to download and import QBO files is painful, besides, it does not allows to action payments directly from QB. Please provide a proper solution.
