Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

@DDcheng ,

QuickBooks 2016 is out of support. You should install the trial license of Quickooks 2019 and try to send email for your comparison.

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

I chatted with tech support, and the clarified.  The agent said they just shutoff my ability to email documents a few weeks ago, as part of discontinuing support.  I understand discontinuing support for older products, but disabling features is ridiculous.

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

I had to make an account to add what I've found... If you have Windows 10 and are having these issues, go into Add/Remove Programs and see if "Microsoft Office Desktop Apps" is there... if so, REMOVE IT! Once I did, Quickbooks was immediately able to select Outlook for a choice. In our environments, this causes a LOT of issues... one main one is users cannot create signatures in Outlook 2013/2016. Hopefully this can help someone out! --rob

But @smooth0401 , what does that program actually do?  I don't want to create a different problem by deleting it...

Same here.  Outlook is installed and set for all defaults.  QB is updated with all current patches.

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

I am having intermittent problems with QuickBooks recognizing that I have an Outlook email. So weird! I think it's fixed & it works, then it's gone again.

I'm also having trouble printing my forms from Payroll.

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

My problem with QuickBooks Pro 2018 has been - I think the Outlook email is set up & it works. Maybe a day - a week - later it's gone again & can't get it back. I've been through this several times.

I've also had problems with Payroll Forms & printing. Also, I used to printout the Payroll Updates top page just to track what they were. Now that is also intermittent. Very frustrating!

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

Make sure Outlook is running in the background prior to going to PREFERENCES, SEND FORMS, and choosing OUTLOOK.  This worked for me.

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

I had the same error message with my QB 2017 and couldn’t figure out why because I had Created an outlook.com email address and when I tried to select the outlook mail choice to email my voices on QB, I kept getting the same message to install client server, no matter how many times I tried to fix it, nothing worked. Then when I upgraded to a QuickBooks 2019, that option to select outlook to email my invoices was gone and I couldn’t figure out why until I called customer service and they told me that I had to purchase Outlook either from Microsoft Office or Outlook 365 and not just use the account I created online. That was my problem all along, why I was getting that error message. When I purchased Microsoft office which includes Outlook, that option for outlook mail was visible again and I am now able to use it. Before I was using Outlook through the web which is not correct.

Hope this helps!

NO ChristieAnn (QuickBooks Team), it has not.  I isolated the issues for your engineers to resolve, but as of today, no solution.  Disgraceful.

@Sandiawell ,

Glary Utilities is for cleaning and repairing your Windows registry. Consider to do it at your own risk.

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

I did the same thing tomlhall did.  New PC and loaded the same software as before--including Outlook and Quickbooks.  I still get the "Install Outlook client on your system to select this option." pop-up window.

This is infuriating.  I've used Quickbooks to send invoices via email for TEN YEARS and now cannot do it.  Yes, I called support and they said "sorry we no longer support you."

Thanks for joining the thread here in the Community, victoratx.

When integrating with other apps, it's essential to know the compatible Outlook versions depending on the QuickBooks program you're using in the system. I recommend the following link as it's a hub of articles to assist a user with the list of supported software:

If you have the right version and still not able to select this option, It would be best to contact QuickBooks Support again. We currently have limited access to this public forum, and it's recommended for one of them to take over to fix the issue.

In case you need the steps, here's how you can reach them:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click the Help tab at the top menu bar, and select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Choose Contact us.

This screenshot will serve as your visual reference:

If Outlook is missing from the Preferences window, I'm adding the support link I recommend for your additional reference:

Outlook is missing in QuickBooks Desktop Send Forms preferences.

Please let me know if you have any other issues or concerns about the Outlook option. I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you. Have a great day ahead.

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

Thanks for joining us here today, @Lx3.

There are several reasons why the Install Outlook client on your system to select this option message occurs

These are the following:

  • Incompatible Microsoft Outlook version with your QuickBooks version.
  • Improper Microsoft Outlook Profile
  • Microsoft Outlook isn't configured properly within Internet Explorer
  • Windows Mail profile settings are incorrect

To resolve this, you'll need to verify if the Outlook that you're using is compatible with our system. The links provided by my peer AlcaeusF above will are good references in checking this out.

Once verified, ensure that the Microsoft Outlook Profile is set correctly.

Take these steps below on how to do that:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Open Outlook.
  3. Choose File.
  4. Select Options.
  5. Go to the General tab.
  6. Scroll down to the Start up Options section.
  7. Check the box next to Make Outlook the default program for Email, Contacts, and Calendar.

If the issue persists after doing this, we can go ahead and see if the Microsoft Outlook has been configured accurately within the Internet Explorer.

Here's how:

  1. In the Internet Explorer, choose Tools.
  2. Choose Internet Options, then select Program Tab.
  3. At the bottom of the window, click Set Programs.
  4. Hit on Set your default programs.
  5. Choose Outlook 365.
  6. Press on Set this program as default and tap on the OK button.
  7. Click Set program access and computer defaults.
  8. Select Microsoft Windows.
  9. Tick the drop-down arrow and pick Use my current Microsoft e-mail program.
  10. Press OK.

Right after, determine if the Windows Mail profile settings are correct. Please see the screenshot below on how can this be done:

If doing this doesn't make a difference, I suggest contacting our Customer Care Team to further isolate this matter. They have the ability to run a remote viewing session that can help investigate this issue.

I'll be here if you have any other questions about this or QuickBooks related things. Just drop a reply below, and we'll take it from there. Take care!
