I chatted online with support and they referred me to sales because "2016 is no longer supported."
No help at all.
QuickBooks 2016 is out of support. You should install the trial license of Quickooks 2019 and try to send email for your comparison.

I chatted with tech support, and the clarified. The agent said they just shutoff my ability to email documents a few weeks ago, as part of discontinuing support. I understand discontinuing support for older products, but disabling features is ridiculous.
But @smooth0401 , what does that program actually do? I don't want to create a different problem by deleting it...

I am having intermittent problems with QuickBooks recognizing that I have an Outlook email. So weird! I think it's fixed & it works, then it's gone again.
I'm also having trouble printing my forms from Payroll.
My problem with QuickBooks Pro 2018 has been - I think the Outlook email is set up & it works. Maybe a day - a week - later it's gone again & can't get it back. I've been through this several times.
I've also had problems with Payroll Forms & printing. Also, I used to printout the Payroll Updates top page just to track what they were. Now that is also intermittent. Very frustrating!

Make sure Outlook is running in the background prior to going to PREFERENCES, SEND FORMS, and choosing OUTLOOK. This worked for me.
I had the same error message with my QB 2017 and couldn’t figure out why because I had Created an outlook.com email address and when I tried to select the outlook mail choice to email my voices on QB, I kept getting the same message to install client server, no matter how many times I tried to fix it, nothing worked. Then when I upgraded to a QuickBooks 2019, that option to select outlook to email my invoices was gone and I couldn’t figure out why until I called customer service and they told me that I had to purchase Outlook either from Microsoft Office or Outlook 365 and not just use the account I created online. That was my problem all along, why I was getting that error message. When I purchased Microsoft office which includes Outlook, that option for outlook mail was visible again and I am now able to use it. Before I was using Outlook through the web which is not correct.
Hope this helps!
just bought a new computer and installed EVERYTHING exactly as before. I've checked all the settings, but I get the dreaded "Install Outlook client on your system to select this option."
Both computers had Win 10 (64), qb 2017 accountant and office 2007.
None of the replies have helped.
at first this didn't work so I closed Outlook and QB. ran Glary and restarted. Once I did that, QB allowed me to select the Outlook option.

Hi there, tomlhall.
Thank you for posting here in the QuickBooks Community.
NO ChristieAnn (QuickBooks Team), it has not. I isolated the issues for your engineers to resolve, but as of today, no solution. Disgraceful.
I did the same thing tomlhall did. New PC and loaded the same software as before--including Outlook and Quickbooks. I still get the "Install Outlook client on your system to select this option." pop-up window.
This is infuriating. I've used Quickbooks to send invoices via email for TEN YEARS and now cannot do it. Yes, I called support and they said "sorry we no longer support you."
Thanks for joining the thread here in the Community, victoratx.
When integrating with other apps, it's essential to know the compatible Outlook versions depending on the QuickBooks program you're using in the system. I recommend the following link as it's a hub of articles to assist a user with the list of supported software:
If you have the right version and still not able to select this option, It would be best to contact QuickBooks Support again. We currently have limited access to this public forum, and it's recommended for one of them to take over to fix the issue.
In case you need the steps, here's how you can reach them:

If Outlook is missing from the Preferences window, I'm adding the support link I recommend for your additional reference:
Please let me know if you have any other issues or concerns about the Outlook option. I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you. Have a great day ahead.
I am having exact same issue.
New PC with Windows 10
Microsoft Office Home and Business 2019 (installed locally)
Preferences -> Send Forms -> select Outlook or Outlook Express
Get message: Install Outlook client on your system to select this option
I have been purchasing and using QuickBooks for 20 years and emailing invoices, etc through multiple versions of Outlook. Have received no help from customer support. They want subscription to assist.
Thanks for joining us here today, @Lx3.
There are several reasons why the Install Outlook client on your system to select this option message occurs.
These are the following:
To resolve this, you'll need to verify if the Outlook that you're using is compatible with our system. The links provided by my peer AlcaeusF above will are good references in checking this out.
Once verified, ensure that the Microsoft Outlook Profile is set correctly.
Take these steps below on how to do that:
If the issue persists after doing this, we can go ahead and see if the Microsoft Outlook has been configured accurately within the Internet Explorer.
Right after, determine if the Windows Mail profile settings are correct. Please see the screenshot below on how can this be done:
If doing this doesn't make a difference, I suggest contacting our Customer Care Team to further isolate this matter. They have the ability to run a remote viewing session that can help investigate this issue.
I'll be here if you have any other questions about this or QuickBooks related things. Just drop a reply below, and we'll take it from there. Take care!
