Hi there, piper2.
Thank you for posting here in the Community. I can share some insights about changing the appearance/resolution/font on the printing screen in QBO.
Currently, your request is unavailable. As mentioned by Rustler, you can adjust your monitor setup or brightness in order not to strain your eyes.
I also think it's a good idea to have the option about the appearance, resolution, and font. Rest assured, I'll be sending feedback to our Product Development Team based on this interaction. After all, enhancements to QuickBooks functionalities are largely the results of feedback provided by users, such as yourself.
You can also do the same by clicking the Gear icon and choosing Feedback.
Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you. Just add a comment below. Have a good one.
I can see the importance of being able to control the appearance and display resolution of the print preview page to you. The suggestions on this page are often looked at by our developers to see what features users like yourself would like to see added.
That being said, I'd personally share your suggestions. Also, be sure to keep an eye on our blog for news and updates on what's in developments: QuickBooks Online Blog.
I've got these articles as a reference should you decide to switch your account to QuickBooks Desktop:
Please don't hesitate to leave your comments below if you have other questions with printing via QuickBooks. I'm always here to help.
I'm able to help you get this sorted out, @chrisdt.
To begin, I suggest logging in your QuickBooks Online account through an incognito browser or private browser. This way, we can identify if it's a browser issue.
Here are the shortcut keys:
If this works, it means that you need to clear your browser's cache to offload some data from your browser. This way, your browser would get optimized and we'll be able to permanently fix the issue.
If you get the same result, let's try using a different browser, then try to check the resolution again.
Also, I encourage contacting our QuickBooks Customer Care if you still get the same result. This way, they can investigate further why you experience this issue.
Stay in touch if you have any other concerns, I'll be happy to help you.
It is now September, 2020. The light QBO font has not changed.
Are you unable to program a different font? Really?
Of course QB Desktop has an issue with font size if you are using a high resolution monitor. Have to set the resolution to a lower number to be able to see the tiny letters.
Intuit ensures that product concerns are addressed as soon as possible for customer's needs. We have already take note of this. And rest assured you'll be informed if there's an update.

I agree - the tiny, grey font is a struggle every day.
Maybe the people designing it are young and have no issues with their eyes, but anyone over 45 is going to have a problem with this font color and size. Please, please, please give the option to darken or make larger.
