Is there a way to stop the left side menu from closing after every transaction? It's unbelievably annoying. It's how I navigate and this just added an extra step.

Hi there, cmurray2.

We are recently integrating new updates in QuickBooks Online. One of which is maximizing the display screen when making transactions or reports. That is why the left menu automatically closes when a creating invoices, bills, etc. For now, there's no setting to keep the left navigation tab steady.

We've already raised this to our engineers because some customers are sending feedback about this. Please allow us some time to get it back to its original position.

On my laptop, the left side menu bar stays open unless I'm creating a new bill or journal, etc.  ONce I've completed and saved the transaction, the menu bar is back.  On my desktop computer (IMac), the left side menu bar has to be manually reopened each time I need it to navigate the system.  It's incredibly inconvenient and just started happening this week.  Why did it change?

It seems to have resolved itself.  I'm not having the same issue today.  Just glad it's fixed.

Thanks.

Hi All - Has this been fixed yet?  I was using QB on a very old laptop & the left 3 line menu would show continuously.  Recently got a new laptop - that's the only thing that changed, and now the menu disappears with every single transaction....why would a QB Engineer think that this was a preferred setting?   I'm so disappointed in QB, been using Intacct and they seem a lot more "steady". - this one is regularly unavailable for whatever reason 'give us a few minutes' -one person logged in on their own pword locks out the other for 20 minutes...???? just weird - how can a corp use programs like this??  But my main goal now is, please, can someone tell me how to get the three bar to 'stick'?  thank you

Hello, @NancyAAS.

You can click on the Hamburger icon beside your account's name so you'd see the menu. It remains as is while you're navigating your QuickBooks account.

However, while creating your sales or purchase transaction, the create transaction window will cover the entire space. You'd only see the toolbar again once you finished creating your transactions. You can visit the QuickBooks Blog for more insights about the navigation updates: QuickBooks Launches New Navigation.

Let me know if you have other questions about navigating around QuickBooks. I'm always here to help.

I've never taken the time to reply to a post, but this time I'm so frustrated I have to say that whatever engineer or developer came up with the disappearing sidebar is simply an idiot! They can't leave well enough alone.  They have to always be changing stuff.  They did the same thing when I used to use desktop.  When something is working nicely, leave it alone!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I have 3 separate companies with QBO.... only one of them has the sidebar that will slide closed.  All are in Accountant view.....  I really need this to go back the way it was.

Thanks for joining the thread, @wshankga. I'll share some insights about the reason why the menu on the left navigational bar in QuickBooks Online (QBO) automatically closes.

When using QuickBooks' Accountant View, and then you hover your cursor over a specific area in the left navigational bar, tabs will only display the sub-menu they contain. It's how it works since it's intended to keep your professional field of view structured and to give you quick access to hidden options. With that said, you should decide which sub-menu you wish to visit if your cursor is over a particular tab. The previous sub-menu will automatically conceal inside its respective section if you don't click the desired sub-menu and then hover over a different area.

On the other hand, the Business View mode provides several tabs where, if you select the specific area, QuickBooks will open a section where all the sub-menus it contains will be available or presented and are clickable. If in case, you're new to QuickBooks and still finding out how things operate, you should use the Business View mode.

At the same time, know that our Product Development Team accepts feedback from our valued customers. I can help you send a feature request if you have any suggestions you'd want to be available in QBO. To begin, here's how:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the top-right corner, click the Gear icon.
  3. Under the Profile column, choose Feedback.
  4. Enter a brief description of your feature request.
  5. Once you're ready, press Send.

In addition, here's an article to help you handle payments in QBO: Take and process payments in QuickBooks Online with QuickBooks Payments.

I'd also recommend checking this page to learn more about how you can modify a report and add other details to it: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

It's been a pleasure to assist you today, @wshankga. Don't hesitate to post here again if you have any additional QuickBooks-related concerns that you'd like to get addressed. I'll be here, willing to help you. Take care, and have a nice day!

Very very annoying!  The feature is not applied consistently to all companies which simply adds to the annoyance factor!  Please make it stop hiding or allow us the option to lock the toolbar in place.

Having the menu bar automatically close when not hovering over it AND NOT GIVING THE OPTION TO KEEP IT OPEN is a terrible idea. My eyes move faster than my mouse, and requiring me to move my mouse over a list just to see what's there while I'm doing bookkeeping adds inefficiency and frustration to using your product.

Please add the option to pin it open. While some people using QBO are constrained by small screens, many are not, so catering only to that subset of your users is poor product development.

I can see how important it is to keep the menu bar open while working with QuickBooks. I'm here to guide you on what you can do, User65468.

You'll want to let our product team know how useful is this for your business by sending a request. To do so, you can go to our Customer Feedback page and send feedback from there by clicking the Give feedback option. Attached is a screenshot for your reference:

This is annoying. Simply give us a Pin button for the menu. Easy to tell the QBO dev team never uses the product for practical purposes or they would not be playing with the menu hopping around, the scroll bars being a mess, the constant refresh to top of reports and recs so one loses their spot. This is not a video game, if they want moving targets, I'm sure they can play some fortnight on their spare time. Simply give us a Pin Menu option, so simple. Forget the auto-jump tricks.
