Migrate Mac to PC

Welcome to the Community, @SuzetteA. I'm glad I get the chance to answer your first post.

I've got you the steps to convert your company file from QuickBooks Desktop for Mac to QuickBooks for Windows.

First off, ensure to update QuickBooks for Mac to the latest release. Then, remove any memos longer than 50 characters or contain special characters like !@#$%^&*.

Here's how to search for memos with special characters:

  1. Go to the Reports menu, then select Custom Transaction Detail Report.
  2. From the Dates drop-down list, select All Dates.
  3. Double-click a transaction with a memo to open it, then delete the special characters from the memo field.
  4. Click Save, then close the transaction.
  5. Repeat the steps for all other transactions, then re-sort your lists.

Once done, run the verify and rebuild tool on your company file by going to the File menu and select Utilities. Then, select Verify Data.

You can now convert your company file by following these steps below:

  1. Open your company file as the admin, then go to the File menu.
  2. Select Export, then choose To QuickBooks for Windows.
  3. Select Verify when prompted.
  4. Name the file and choose the folder to save it in. Then, click Save
  5. Enter and confirm your password and select OK twice to confirm.
  6. Move the file to your Windows computer. You can also do this with the use of a USB flash drive, cloud storage, or email if the file is small enough.
  7. Restore the file in QuickBooks for Windows.

I'm also inviting you to visit our QuickBooks Desktop Articles hub. You can browse any topics related to any concern you might have in the future.

And of course, you have us here in the Community if you need more help. Feel free to post again with all your other concerns.

@SuzetteA

2 options:

1. Install the trial license of QBD Mac 2021, or

2. Install the trial license of QBD Pro 2019.
