Migrator Tool Quickboos 2018 Pro

Is there a way to run the migrator tool and have it load on the second drive on the new computer.   My C: drive is a SSD with limited space.   When running the migrator tool on the new computer it does not give a choice to install to the D: drive.   Is there a way to set a parameter on the Move_QuickBooks.exe to point to an alternate drive or a command in the Move_QuickBooks.bat file to change the drive?  Thanks

Thanks for getting back to us, LTPS.

When moving the file, QuickBooks will automatically save it to the local drive. The option to install the Migrator Tool directly to your D drive is unavailable this time.

To transfer the company file, you can consider transferring it manually. Let me help perform the process.

Make a backup of your file on the old computer first. Here's how:

  1. At the top menu bar, go to the File tab to select Backup Company.

  2. Then, choose to Create Local Backup.
  3. When Create Backup dialog will display, mark the radio button for Local Backup and then hit Next.

  4. In the Backup Options window, navigate to the Tell us where to save your backup copies section and select Browse.
  5. Another dialog box opens, pick the location where you want to save the backup copy.
  6. In the Online and Local Backup section, choose to set a frequency for backup reminders.
  7. Select one of the options to verify the data saved and then click OK.

  8. In the Create Backup window, specify if you want to back up automatically and pick Options to set alternatives for automatic backups and click OK.

  9. Follow the onscreen intructions to finish backing up the data fie.

Next, copy the backup file to your new computer via any of the following:

• Using a flash drive or other external device.
• Through a network, if the computers are connected

Once done, you can start restoring the data file to the new computer.

Welcome to the Intuit Community, LTPS.

Transferring of QuickBooks to another computer can be completed in just a few clicks. The Migrator Tool is a built-in feature that can help move the program together with the company file.

The option to route the Move_QuickBooks.bat to a different drive is unavailable. Since the SSD has a limited space, you can consider using a flash drive to physically move the file.

For more in-depth information about the process, such how the feature works and requirements needed before transferring the software, check out this article: Move to or reinstall QuickBooks Desktop in another computer.

Re: Migrator Tool Quickboos 2018 Pro

The problem is not creating the data files on a usb drive from the old computer.   The problem is when you put the usb drive created from the old computer into the new computer and run the bat file, the tool loads the files to the c: drive of the new computer without asking where to install.   Since my new computer has SSD drive meant for the OS only I need the tool to install on the D: drive.   Is there a way using the using the usb drive taken from the old computer, ran on the new computer to install on a drive other than the C: drive.

Re: Migrator Tool Quickboos 2018 Pro

The migrator tool was loaded on a usb drive from the old computer.   My question was once I run the bat file from the usb drive on the new computer, the program does not prompt what drive to install the quickbook files too.   It defaults to the C: drive which most new computers now use a SSD drive for OS and not for storing data.   My question is:   Is there a way using the tool from the usb drive on the new computer to have it install on the D: hard drive instead of the C: drive on the new computer.
