Join nowAfter physically moving a workstation with the company shared files to a new location (no change to O/S), the files and the folder with the QuickBooks files are missing. Files were located in the c:\user\public documents location. No files can be found that were deleted. No Quickbook files can be found on the workstation. Unfortunately, no backups were being done.
I've got some troubleshooting steps we can try to restore your company files in QuickBooks, dbertelsen.
This happens when your computer is disconnected from the path where the QuickBooks file is located. It could be also your QuickBooks file was deleted in your program.
Since the file is saved locally, you can go to your server computer and perform a wild card search for all company files. Just type one of the following into the search bar:
Once the file is found, make a note of the file's location and follow the steps in this article to restore it on your software: Restore your file.
For other troubleshooting solutions about the company file is missing, just refer to this article: Company file is missing or cannot be found.
If the file is not found, I'd suggest contacting your IT personnel to help you locate the file.
I have an article here for more details about moving your files: Move your company files to another computer.
Please touch-based with me if you need a hand with running transactions or reports or any QuickBooks related. I'm always here to help.
Thank you for the information. Unfortunately, the workstation that was physically moved was the host computer. After the move, all files are missing from the workstation. No Quickbooks files can be found on the system (hidden or deleted). The Quickbook company share was routed to the c:\user\pubilc documents\inuit\.... this file structure is no longer on the system. Seems like it was recreated?
Thanks for updating us, @dbertelsen.
If you're unable to locate the file on the system, I'd recommend reaching out to a member of your IT. They may have a recent backup you can load in. Since the file can't be found on the current state of your workstation, there's not a way to restore them unless you have a backup.
Since my colleague provided all available resources above, I'd recommend having your IT look at those to try to locate the file if they have a backup of the system.
Please know I'm always available here to lend a helping hand. Cheers to a great weekend!
