moving QB Premier Nonprofit Edition 2020 data from old computer to new computer.

I got a new computer and downloaded my QB Premier Nonprofit Edition 2020 onto it. Now I'm trying to move the data from the QB on my old computer to the QB on my new computer. For some reason the Migration Tool won't work. So I'm trying to restore date from my Intuit Data Protect online backup. It seems to be stuck in a window where it says 'the server is preparing your data for "Quickbooks Desktop Data"'. Like, since yesterday!

Has anyone else run into this, and does anyone have any suggestions? I'm wondering if the fact that I have a one computer license might have something to do with it...

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks, David

moving QB Premier Nonprofit Edition 2020 data from old computer to new computer.

Hello there, @davidsimpson60.

Let me share some insights and information on how you can transfer your company file from your old computer to the new one.

The Migration Tool will work when you're using QuickBooks Desktop in single-user mode. Besides, you may need to update your new computer to Windows 10 if the migrator doesn't start after choosing and running the file.

Since you're using the Intuit Data Protect online backup, I'd recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Customer Support Team. From there, they can pull up your account with their advanced tools like screen sharing to guide you in moving your company data.

Also, there's another way to move everything. You can create a backup company file to store it on a flash drive and restore it on the new computer. It will save your data and all the supporting files. For the detailed steps, please refer to this article: Move your company files to another computer. From there, go to Move your company file to another computer to learn the steps.

Additionally, to get answers to frequently asked questions about Intuit Data Protect, here a guide for you: Common questions about Intuit Dat Protect. There you'll see the requirements needed to run Intuit Data Protect and get help in backing up data.

Feel free to place a comment if you have more questions about moving QuickBooks data. I'll keep my notifications open. Stay safe and well!
