My desktop computer crashed. Trying to restore quickbooks bakup to my laptop. Get a message that backup file is read only ? What do I do ?

My desktop computer crashed. Trying to restore quickbooks bakup to my laptop. Get a message that backup file is read only ? What do I do ?

Good afternoon, @nortech.

I am happy to assist with getting this read only file in working order! Here is what we can try:

  1. Locate the file in Windows Explorer.
  2. Right-click the company (.QBW) file.
  3. On the General tab, ensure that Read Only is not checked. If it is checked, clear the checkbox and select OK.
  4. Try opening the file again.
