My intuit backup is not working on its own. i have to do it. I have it set for 3:00 pm every day

You're using Intuit Data Protect from what it sounds like. There are multiple reasons why you could be experiencing this error. During the set up of IDP, there were three main guidelines you need to follow.
Be logged in as the Windows user that set up IDP
Make sure the computer is on, it can be locked but not in rest mode
Make sure no users are logged into the company file.
