null error message while installing QuickBooks Enterprise16

@PROFITSLC

We couldn't reinstall and activate any outdated QBD Enterprise any longer. Consider upgrade to QBD Enterprise 2020 or xgrading to Premier with a one time license.

null error message while installing QuickBooks Enterprise16

Hello there, PROFITSLC.

Just like any other outdated software versions, you may experience errors which requires high maintenance. Aside from that, QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 16.0 should be run under a supported operating system:

  • Windows 8.1, all editions including 64-bit, natively installed.
  • Windows 7, all editions including 64-bit, natively installed.
  • Windows Vista (SP2 or later), all editions including 64-bit, natively installed.
  • Windows Server 2012, Windows Small Business Server 2011, Small Business Server 2008
  • Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2003 (SP2)*,including 64-bit, natively installed.

If you're using an updated version of windows (example: Windows 10), you can't install the 2016 version from there.

For additional information on which supported versions works in a specific QBDT version, check out this article: Which Windows 10 version works best for QuickBooks Desktop?

I understand your side about the upgrade option offered. As much as I would like to extend more help, this is the least thing I can do. You may consider the suggestions shared above.

It seems their decision is final. We may keep using any outdated QBES version but we couldn't reinstall it for now. To lower your cost, you may purchase the new license thru a partner/reseller.

I am so totally frustrated with Intuit right now.   I am a Pro Advisor and was on a several hour support call 7/13/2020.  I was having issues installing updates to QB Enterprise Version 2017 and was instructed to Remove it and Re-install it.   I tried reinstalling several times, each time receiving a "Null Error Message" and then it craped out.  The Intuit Tech said they were sending me a CD with QBE2017 on it.  The CD arrived Today, 7/21/2020.  They sent QB version 2020!  I waited all this time for the CD and they sent the Wrong one!

@Cathy W

Forget it reinstalling your QBES 2017 for good. If you were using QBES 2017, you should have the license of QBES 2018-2020. Consider upgrading to one of the available license in your CAMPS.

I already have many versions of QB and QBE on my computer.  I am a ProAdvisor.  I need QBE 2017 reinstalled to support a client.

Your last resort is to utilize the trial license of QBES 2017.

I am trying to install QB 2016 and they can do nothing for me. I've been on with customer support for over an hour and they can barely grasp that I can only use 2016...

I'm here to help you resolve the error when installing QuickBooks Enterprise 2016, MR16now.

May I know the specific error you've encountered or the troubleshooting that you've tried to resolve this error? Knowing so will help us isolate the problem.

Though the version you've trying to install is outdated software, there will be limitations and system requirements for the supported window. QuickBooks Desktop 2016 should be worked under a compatible operating system:

  • Windows 8.1, all editions including 64-bit, natively installed.
  • Windows 7, all editions including 64-bit, natively installed.
  • Windows Vista (SP2 or later), all editions including 64-bit, natively installed.
  • Windows Server 2012, Windows Small Business Server 2011, Small Business Server 2008
  • Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2003 (SP2)*, including 64-bit, natively installed.

If you're using an updated version of windows (example: Windows 10), you can't install the 2016 version from there.

Just a friendly reminder, standalone QuickBooks Desktop has a three-year supported life span. It means that QuickBooks Desktop 2016 is no longer supported.

On the other hand, you may consider to purchasing a newly updated product to upgrade your software.

If your machine is running on Win 8.1 or 10, try install your QBD 2016 on compatibility mode Win 7.

I tried the install on a Win 8.1 VM and it failed. It says I don't have a subscription when I know I do.  I even ran it in compatibility mode 8 and I get the same error. If I try to install it on a Win 10 machine I just get a null error.

Just to clarify, do you need to install QB Desktop Enterprise 2016, or QB Desktop Pro/Premier 2016?

Good Afternoon, @MR16now.

Thanks for reaching back out to the Community. It only takes a few easy steps while running QuickBooks in compatibility mode on Windows 7. Here's how:

  1. Right-click on the QuickBooks and then press Properties
  2. Select the Compatibility tab.
  3. Put a check in the Run this program in compatibility mode for box.
  4. Add any other changes.
  5. When you're done, choose OK

It's that simple. Here's an extra article about Windows 7 that may come in handy.

Let me know if this helps. Take care!

@MR16now

You are unable to reinstall any outdated QBD Enterprise any longer. Consider upgrading to QBD Enterprise 2020 or downgrading to Pro/Premier 2020. We may share a trial license of QBES 2016 if you need to justify your decision.

Why is this marked solved? This is not a solution. Buy other software isn't a solution. The software works and did work until Intuit changed something and broke the installer.
