not sure what has happened overnight as all worked yesterday. I even rebooted my computer!!
I got an error message when trying to attach a one page PDF to an invoice. This was in QBO App. Tried a few other PDFs an all received an error message stating for Security Reasons, you can't upload this file. I have seen the message when trying to load a zipped file. QBO did allow me to upload an excel doc
so, because the APP continues to have problems. Logged in to QBO through Chrome...same issue

Hi I also have this problem for both PDF and JPG this has only started recently. We can't wait too long as year end is 30 September. The message I get is "For security reasons, we do not allow you to upload this type of file"
Welcome to the Community. I can provide some clarification about attaching files in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
For security reasons, QuickBooks Online limits the file types that can be attached. The following file types are supported:
I'm including an article with additional information on this: Attachments in QuickBooks Online.
As my friend @MorganB mentioned, there are currently reports of files not attaching and the engineering team is aware of it and hope to have more information soon. Some users have been able to get past this error by removing the extra space before the extension. For example, "filename .pdf" being renamed to "filename.pdf" in this instance.
Additionally, when experiencing unexpected behavior in QuickBooks Online, it's recommended to clear the cache of the browser. Cache is information that's stored to improve browser loading times but can interfere with processes. The following link will walk you through the steps: Delete or Disable Cache and Temporary Internet Files in Your Web Browser.
Lastly, you'll be glad to know that there is support in Australia so you don't have to worry about time zones or international calling if you need this form of assistance. Here's how you can reach them:
Normally, I would wish you a pleasant weekend ahead, but since it's already Saturday in Australia, please know how jealous I am ;). Of course I'm only a post away if you should have any questions. Take care.
I spoke to online help about this issue today; they suggested making sure that the file is saved as "filename.pdf" not "filename .pdf" - apparently it's the spaces at the end of the file names that are causing the issue. Hope this helps!
Thanks for joining us in the Community. I can provide insight on the error message that you're getting when attaching PDF's.
The engineers are continuing to investigate why users are receiving the error message "For security reasons we do not allow you to upload this type of file" when adding attachments to invoices and sales receipts. This team hopes to soon have more information on this.
There have been reports by users of receiving this error when there is an extra space before the file extension and that they have been able to get past this error by removing it. For example, if you have " filename. pdf" you would need to rename it to "filename.pdf."
Additionally, my post above contains further information and clarification on the error message that you're receiving.
Should you continue to experience this unexpected behavior, I encourage you to contact the Phone Support Team so they can add you to the list of affected users. This will list will also sign you up to receive email updates as soon as they become available. Here's how to contact them:
Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or I can be of additional support. Have a wonderful weekend.
I'm having the same issue getting the message "For security reasons, we do not allow you to upload this type of file" however, I get it with excel files. PDFs and JPEGs I have no issue.
I tried removing the spaces on the file name and still got the same message.
Welcome to the Community. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know the steps that you've tried to resolve this, as well as the file types.
Since you're still receiving this error message after following the suggested steps, I encourage you to contact our Phone Support Team so they can review your account and sign you up to receive updates when they become available. Here's how you can contact them:
Since you're experiencing this behavior with a .XLSX file, and not PDF's or JPEG's, you may wish to consider attaching .CSV files for spreadsheets in the meantime.
Don't hesitate to post a reply if I can be of additional help. Wishing you and your business continued success.
I've been having the same issue for weeks now. I have found that it happens on pdf's that I created somewhere other than my computer, like Camscanner on my phone for example. If I open the pdf on my computer and save it again, QBO will accept as an attachment the file I created on my computer, but not a file I created from my phone, or downloaded from elsewhere. It's a pain but at least it works. Hope they fix this soon.
Thank you for taking the time to post how you were able to get past this message and attach your PDF's in QuickBooks Online. I'm confident that this information can help others that are experiencing this message, while the engineering team continues to look into this.
The sharing of ideas and solutions between members is one of the many things that helps to make the Community such a great place.
I'm only a post away if I can be of additional assistance. Have a good one.
Had the same issue with four PDFs I had saved from Outlook -- ALL caused by a 'space' between filename and '.pdf'. Thanks for posting
David, I've already contacted Quickbooks support and we couldn't find the reason of this issue.
Hello again, tatibarrera,
I'm grateful that you took the time to provide me with an update on the steps that you've tried, such as the different file types, and the outcome.
Your time is valuable to me, as well as the ability for you to send invoices with these attachments. I can assure you that the engineering team is looking into this and hope to soon have more information regarding this error message.
Please know that I'm here if I can be of additional help. Wishing you a pleasant weekend.
I am also have been having the same issue for over a month now. I followed all of the suggestions on this thread and even called customer support. Customer support informed I cannot be added to the list that you referred to as the initial investigation has been closed while the engineering team works to fix the issues. This is an icredible inconvenience to myself/business as well as my customers. I am highly disappointed as this is one of the main functions I require to complete my business; I feel as though there should be some deeper resolution for those of us who rely on this function, specifically as we pay monthly for the service. If this is not cleared up in the next couple of weeks, I will be searching for an alternative program to manage the accounting for my business. I am highly disappointed and dissatisfied.
Did you try saving the file again, then attaching? I have this problem frequently but resaving the pdf then reattaching has never failed to work for me. Whatever file you are trying to attach, open it on your computer, resave with a different name, then try attaching that new file.
I have been having the same problem but with trying to attach .doc files as well as occassionaly PDF's. Attaching .doc files is my primary issue. I have tried renaming the files, clearing my browsers, rebooting my computer, all to no avail. I have attached screenprints showing the issue. I sincerely hope that the QB team comes up with a solution soon as we use the note field extensively and since it is limited we have to cut and paste the notes to a word document to attached to the file for access from multiple locations. If we can't attach the word document, we don't have the history of our customer. :(
