QB 2016, duplicate files

Dear Friends, in the course of putting my company on QB 2016, I now have 3 duplicate file versions of the company version 0, version 1, and version 2. With version 2 it finally appears to be working. How can I delete these 3 versions and start over from scratch?

QB 2016, duplicate files

It's nice to have you here in the Community space, @coppens1.

You can delete the duplicate file version just like other files on your computer. You can type one of the following into the search bar in the Start Menu.

Make sure to include the asterisk (*) before the extension type (like *.qbw, *.jpeg, *.xls, *.js, *.docs, *.png) to ensure the search works correctly.

  • *.qbw (Working Files)
  • *.qbb (Back Up Files)
  • *.qba (Accountants Copy Files)
  • *.qbx (Accountants Transfer Files)
  • *.qby (Accountants Change Files)

The default location for company files is: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files. Once found, you can now delete it and start new.

In case you want to remove the company files from the open company list. I'll show you how;

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Select Close Company.
  3. Click the Edit List button.
  4. Put a check-mark next to the company file you want to delete.
  5. Click OK.

Once the duplicate version is already deleted, you can now create a new company file.

Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. In the No Company Open window, select Create a new company.
  3. Choose the setup for your company.
  • Select Express Start or Start Setup if you want to get started right away, just enter your business name, industry, and business type to create your company file. You can enter this info later on.
  • Select Detailed Start if you want to do a complete setup so all of your info is in from the start.

  4. Follow the onscreen steps to finish the setup.

For more detailed steps, just click this article: Create a QuickBooks Desktop company file.

I'll add some articles as your reference with your new company file in QuickBooks Desktop:
