QB for Mac 2019

Downloaded Mac 2019 yesterday.  Installed and updated my Mac 2016 data file today.  Rolling along with no problems.  Thank you so much for this update!!  I am so glad I can keep my QB Mac updated and working well.  I was beginning to worry because the new OS is on the horizon.

Intuit - Thank you!

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Just for my information, does this program keep your files on your desktop? Or is it the "cloud" version which I did not convert to in 2017?

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Hey @Hashmd.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I'll be happy to explain where QuickBooks Desktop stores your files.

Your files stay on the local computer unless you have Intuit Data Protect. With this, you can access the backups form the cloud.

You can click here, for more information on Intuit Data Protect.

If you have any other questions, I'll be here.

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Hi

I am a bit confused. As I understood it Quickbooks was discontinuing Quickbooks for Mac in March 2019 and no new desktop app for Mac was coming and all Mac users have to switch to Quickbooks Online? Did Quickbooks decide to abandon this plan and release a new desktop version for Mac?

If this is the case it is great. I for one am not interested in Quickbooks Online. I do not appreciate that my company files is held by Quickbooks on their servers and I have to keep paying to keep using them. It feels as if my files are “held hostage”. If I do not keep paying they get deleted and I cannot download a quickbooks file to open in a desktop app so if I can't afford it any longer I have to pay to have all the data recaptured.

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Hi there, Jacodb.

Thanks for following up on this thread and for your interest in the Mac version of QuickBooks. I'm here to provide some additional information for you.

QuickBooks for Mac 2019 has just recently been released and is still in the beginning stages. There isn't a UK version of the software available at this time.

I can see how it would be beneficial to you to have this version in South Africa. I'll make sure to pass along your request to the Product Development Team to let them know you'd like to see the software offered to international users.

I appreciate your patience, but feel free to contact me here if you have any other questions in the mean time.

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Hi. I reluctantly went over to QB online in order to continue communicating with my banks back when you were discontinuing desktop for Mac. I came to love the ease of the online version but I was just informed my personal household account subscription will go up to $695 and my corporate subscription will go up to $495. That is extortion as I see it so I’m wondering what my options are. Can I migrate back to the desktop 2019 version and be able to download QBO or IFF files and continue to use your products? Because I don’t plan to pay $1,100 a year for software to do my own books.

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Haha. $1,190 to do my own books. I guess I need all the help I can get.

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Hi, JHughes.

Thanks for contacting the Community for support. I'm here to give you details about migrating from the online version of QuickBooks back to Desktop 2019.

To answer your question, yes, migrating from one version of QuickBooks to another is an option. There are some specific steps you'll need to do to complete this process. To start, these are some of the initial requirements:

  • You'll need to be using the US version of the software.
  • You must be the Master Administrator, Company Administrator, or invited accountant.
  • Use a PC with Internet Explorer 10 (or higher).

This article provides other requirements, as well as the steps to export your data: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1145829-exporting-from-online-to-desktop.

If you need some extra assistance with these steps, a member of the QuickBooks Support Team would be able to help. Phone support agents have the tools, like screen-sharing, to walk you through the steps directly. The number to speak with an agent is 1-800-488-7330. The most up-to-date contact information can be found here: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.

I wish you and your business continued success. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Every time I try to close the "Receive Payments" window the program crashes. Anyone else having issue with this. It also crashes if I "Quit" the program with the wind open... What should I do?

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Yes I'm experiencing the same issue. I contacted support and they said they're working on a fix, which will come in the next update. This is a very annoying bug, which makes me regret upgrading to 2019 from 2016. Especially because 2019 hardly has any new features worth the upgrade. I knew that the new features in 2019 weren't much before I upgraded, but I upgraded because I want to support Intuit to continue to develop the desktop version. However, having to deal with this bug, which effects a very core task in Quickbooks is very annoying and I expect better from Intuit.

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Hello there, @Abeco.

It's nice to know that you're interested in getting our QBDT for Mac. Allow me to step in for a moment and share some information about processing payments in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac.

The option to process ACH payments is currently unavailable in both QBDT for Mac 2016 and 2019. However, you can still process credit card payments in both versions of QuickBooks.

All you need to do is to make sure that you connect your Payments account to your QuickBooks. Once done, here's how to process a credit card payments:

1. Go to Customers and then select Receive Payment to apply the payment to an invoice. (To apply the payment to a sales receipt, click Enter Sales Receipts).
2. Enter the customer and transaction information, and select the appropriate credit card Payment Method (Pmt. Method).
3. Click OK, Charge or Save to process the transaction.
4. If you selected Visa, MC, AMEX or Discover, enter the credit card information in the displayed window and click Process.

For your reference, you can check out this article for further guidance: Process a credit card payment in QuickBooks for Mac. To know more about what's new in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2019, you may visit this link: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1749286.

That's it! Please let me know if you have additional questions by leaving a comment. I'd be glad to answer them. Have an awesome week ahead!

Hi there:

I have the QB for Mac 2016 and I'm wondering if I need to upgrade to 2019.  My software is working well, and unless you foresee problems ahead, I'd rather keep what is working. Would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks in advance!

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Sending good vibes to you, LizF.

Allow me to provide some information about the product.

After May 31st, 2019, QuickBooks for Mac 2016 will be discontinued. Intuit discontinues live support and access to add-on business services of older desktop versions of QuickBooks to focus on supporting more current versions. The QuickBooks services that will stop working include:

  • Payroll Services
  • Email from QuickBooks
  • Intuit Payment Network
  • Credit Card Processing
  • Bank Downloads

Using any of the above services or having any add-on products that expand your QuickBooks functionality, will require an upgrade or the services will stop working.  Your version will need to be upgraded before the end of May to keep all of your services and QuickBooks running smoothly. We recommend upgrading every three years to avoid service interruption.

If you require more information, please let me know. I'll be around to provide them for you. Have a good one.

Re: QB for Mac 2019

a bit confused as I see the PC version (going for $179) allows 3 users...the Mac version (also $179) is only one user, and you have to pay more for users...a bit odd....I will be the only user personally, but want it on two machines (my office & home)....any thoughts?

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Pleased to have you here, @soundssweet.

QuickBooks is designed to make bookkeeping faster,  easier, helpful and affordable. Choosing the best version of QuickBooks to purchase depends on your business needs and the device you're using. Allow me to share some information with you on the pricing plan available for QuickBooks for Mac.

QuickBooks for Mac, also referred to as Quickbooks Pro for Mac, is the desktop version for Apple's Mac operating system. It is specially built as a Mac product from the ground up, so the interface will be familiar if you’ve used other Mac applications. It is a hybrid product, which is easy to use and feature-rich, created by grafting the best bit of QuickBooks Pro and QuickBooks Online

The one time regular price for QuickBooks for Mac 2019 is $299.95 + taxes if applicable. Just a heads-up though, price may change from time to time without prior notice.

On the other hand, here are some of the enhancements in the new QuickBooks for Mac 2019:

  • iCloud document sharing: A convenient method for sharing QuickBooks for Mac file using iCloud sync.  Change your books on your work Mac computer then continue where you left off on your home Mac computer.
  • Reconciliation Discrepancy report: This identifies changes made to reconciled transactions created with this release or later.
  • Email tracking for customers and vendors: Track dates emails sent with a tab in the Vendor and Customer centers.
  • Past Due stamp on invoices: you can have PAST DUE appear on invoices.
  • Square transactions import: You can import sales data from Square via use of .csv file type.
  • User Passwords: Passwords are now required. Personal information is encrypted.

To check for any available subscription discounts and eligibility requirements, I'd recommend reaching out to our Customer Care Team. An agent will be able to look into your account's billing history securely and provide you with the additional information you need.

Here’s how to contact us:

  1. Go to: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
  2. Choose your QuickBooks Product.
  3. Select your QuickBooks version.
  4. On the Contact Us page, click a topic.
  5. Click on the Get Phone Number button to see the support number.

If you have follow-up questions about the subscription fee and other charges, feel free to leave a comment below. I'm here to help.

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Morgan,  I've been using quickbooks on my mac pro desktop for years.  Unfortunately this very powerful computer that I use for all of my business needs cannot be upgraded to the most current OS operating system without obsoleting huge numbers of necessary programs that I use daily in business.  So quickbooks is working just fine on OS El Capitan 10.11.6 on my older computers.  I also carry a laptop when I travel and connect to the work desktop from the road.  My laptop is a Macbook Pro and I recently upgraded to OS Mojave the most recent operating system for Mac.  Quickbooks no longer functions on this newly upgraded laptop.  My question is this:  If I upgrade my laptop to use on the road with the new version of Quickbooks for Mac 2019, will it change the base files I'm connecting to and using on the Old Computer/server so that they are no longer usable on the older computer using the older version of Quickbooks?  I cannot install the Quickbooks for Mac 2019 (I assume...) on the OS el Capitan -- or can I?

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Hello Lenmarino,

Upgrading to QuickBooks for Mac 2019 will not change the data. It will just upgrade the file to work with the new version. You can check our system requirements to make sure if QuickBooks for Mac 2019 supports your operating system.

Here's an article for more information: System requirements for QuickBooks 2019.
