The program will sign you out once you're inactive, Mark149.
We're unable to prevent it. Although, you can extend the hours before you'll be signed out. Here's how:

Similar problem, but with the APP.
I use the app a lot. The payroll - I'm using advanced Payroll - times e out if I don't use it for 30 minutes, when I go back to the payroll option after about 30 minutes, I get a screen saying I need to set my cookies, but I'm using the APP. I can only get back into payroll by closing the app and restarting it. I did the setting the timeout to 3 hours, but that's not helped.
This is really starting to cause problems. Do you have a solution?
Kindest regards
Rosco
Hello there, @RoscoPC.
I've got some resolutions to share to help fix the log-out time issue that you've encountered with QuickBooks Online.
If you're using the desktop app, I'd suggest clearing the app's cache files. This eliminates the unnecessary data on the app the may cause unexpected behavior while using the program.
You'll find the instructions for doing so below:
If resetting the App Data still doesn't make a difference, I recommend doing a full reinstall of the program. The steps in the link attached will help you accomplish this: QuickBooks App for Windows and Mac: General support.
On the other hand, if you're using the mobile app, you can clear it's data by following these steps depending on the device that you've got.
For Android:
For iOS:
If the problem continues, you may proceed with uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Here's a reference that you can check out to guide you in fixing app-related hurdles in QBO: Here are some quick steps to fix most app-related issues.
Let me know on how things turn out after trying these steps. I'll be around to provide further assistance. Take care!
