QuickBooks 2019 Mac Will Not Share Company File in MultiUser Mode

I have installed QuickBooks 2019 and QuickBooks 2019 Server on an iMac running macOS 10.12.6 with all updates installed.

I followed the instructions for installing QuickBooks 2019, opening and converting the QuickBooks 2016 company file, and updating user passwords. To this point, all seemed to work fine and there were no issues with the company file.

I then followed the steps to install the server and setup QuickBooks 2019 to share the company file. Users were already created, so I went to Manage License and Synced the Licenses. I then went to File and Enable Multiuser Mode. QuickBooks 2019 Server launches and then nothing happens. I try to manually open the company file in the server and nothing happens.

I have deleted preferences and caches. I deleted the 2016 and 2019 company files, copied over the backup I had made and went through the entire process again. Still nothing.

QuickBooks 2019 Mac Will Not Share Company File in MultiUser Mode

Hey JenoP!

After more than an hour on the phone with telephone support and having them remote into my client's Mac, the issue remains unresolved.

At the request of telephone support, I made a backup of the original Quickbooks 2016 Mac file, copied both that and the original file to the Mac that will be the server. Neither the backup or the newer copy of the company file will share.

However, if I create a new company in QuickBooks 2019, it will share.

Any ideas?

QuickBooks 2019 Mac Will Not Share Company File in MultiUser Mode

Hello there, MacMaster.

I appreciate you for getting back to us about the result of the troubleshooting. It would be my pleasure to help you get to the bottom of this strange behavior.

First, let's make sure the QuickBooks server app is shared by following these steps:

  1. Click Go from an Application.
  2. Double click on the QuickBooks server app icon.
  3. If you see your file under Not Shared, select that file or click on the Start Sharing button.

After following the steps above, we can proceed with checking your Mac OS Firewall settings.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Apple menu on your desktop and select System Preferences.
  2. Choose the Security & Privacy icon.
  3. Select the Firewall button.
  4. Select the Firewall Options button.
  5. Verify that your QuickBooks Server app is set to Allow Incoming Connections.

Please let me know how it goes. I'll be on a look out for your response in case you need further assistance.
