Quickbooks Online Desktop App (Windows 10) will not launch! Forget the App Data Reset suggestion...i cannot even get that far. Please help!

Hello there, montauk.

We've been receiving similar cases about this issue with logging into QuickBooks Online Desktop App. Our engineers are currently conducting an investigation to come up with a permanent fix.

In the mean time, we can try resetting your QuickBooks Online app. Let me walk you through how:

  1. Click Help at the top.
  2. Selecting Reset App Data.
  3. Then, close and re-open the app and try signing in again.

Otherwise, try using a different browser to login to your Quickbooks Online Desktop App.

While waiting for the permanent fix, I recommend contacting our  Care Support Team. This is to obtain further information on this investigation and add you to the list of affected users.

Here's how you can reach them:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Help at the top right.
  3. Select Contact Us to connect with a live agent.
  4. Enter your concern.
  5. Click the Green Phone button to get the phone number.

Stay in touch with me and let me know how it works on your end or if you have any other questions. I'm always happy to help.

Quickbooks Online Desktop App (Windows 10) will not launch! Forget the App Data Reset suggestion...i cannot even get that far. Please help!

Charies, thank you very much for the reply.

Unfortunately, as i mentioned in my original post, i cannot even login to the Desktop App in order to select Help/Reset App Data. I get a loading error with two options, Retry or Quit, and when i Retry i get the error again. (I also attached a PDF screenshot of the error on original post.)

I will contact support as you suggest, to log the issue (since i guess you cannot do that?), but please fully read and review postings so you don't waste your (or our) time.

Also, i did uninstall (via Windows 10 Program Settings) and reinstall the app, with no change.

I can use the browser mode, so i can work...but that mode is so tedious as pages tend to log out and take longer to reload. I decided to finally use QBO for some clients because of the Desktop App, which is much more efficient, if still nowhere near as fast and dependable as the full Desktop program, which i still prefer for larger clients.

So I would be extremely grateful for any help your team can offer to get this working again!

Attaching the screenshot PDF file of the loading error again (here below) for expediency.

"Also, i did uninstall (via Windows 10 Program Settings) and reinstall the app, with no change."

If you've uninstalled the QBO Windows App, it's possible something is still left open in Window 10 Task Manager related to this program.

I would suggest installing the QBO Window App on another computer if possible. Just to try it if it works.

Hope this helps!

Hello there, Montauk23.

Thanks for getting back and sharing your experience with us.

You can try vpcontroller's suggestion. Otherwise, you can log into QBO using a web browser as another workaround.

In the meantime, I recommend giving us a quick call and provide this INV-17577 to our representative as your reference to the current investigation. The contact number is provided above.

If you need anything else, please feel free to come back and leave a comment below.

Everyone, i know i can use the browser and have been doing so. Unfortunately, it does not work as well as the Windows App...is slower and logs off my pages too quickly. I only switched a client to QBO because of the App. For some reason, suddenly (probably after someone's update), the App will no longer open. I get "Retry or Quit" as the options, and retrying returns the same option page every time, so Quit is the only real option. It is broken. Just to be clear, I CANNOT login and reset or refresh app data, because the QBO App WILL NOT OPEN.

After working it with Intuit via chat, i was given this official communication, which i did not receive via email. (Intuit database issues...still using my old email i believe.)

Effectively, they're telling me to GFU.  Windows is only the largest operating system in the world...why should i expect Intuit to repair a previously working app? Of course, between Intuit and Microsoft i suppose i really shouldn't be surprised about this TOTAL CLUSTER F$&K.

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for subscribing to our updates on this Investigation. We appreciate your patience while we have researched this scenario.

While we are constantly evolving our products to provide you the best possible user experience, we do not anticipate a change to this product behavior in the immediate future.

This will be our final communication until something changes on this investigation. To be clear, we are not saying that engineering work has stopped in search of a resolution - if the status of the behavior changes, we will be sure to communicate that to you. While we work to find you a solution, we apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you.

Our suggestion remains to access your QBO company via your mobile browser or a supported web browser instead. Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you for getting back in this thread, @montauk

I appreciate you following the recommendations and reaching out to our chat support.

I've checked the investigation about being unable to open the QBO app, and there are no updates as of right now. There isn't a current time frame for when this will be resolved. However, your case is added to the INV-17577 and as soon as we have an update, you will be notified via email.

I'll be sure to update this thread too if I get notifications.

I'm still here to help you if you have other concerns or questions about QuickBooks. Just let me know by adding a comment below. Have a good one.

I have not received any communication or fix from Intuit, but i've been re-trying the QBO Windows app a few times a week since it crashed. Yesterday I downloaded the app again, fresh, and after a few tries and failures, it opened! I gave it a day to be sure and it has continued to work. I suppose a recent update by Intuit or Windows did the trick (?). In any case, i am using the QBO app on Windows desktop again and it is far superior to the browser-based version. Relief.

Thanks for joining us here, ChuckH.

The Error 3371 is caused by a missing or damaged component file that's necessary for QuickBooks to run. This can also be caused by an outdated Windows operating system.

It's recommended to get the Windows update. Then open QuickBooks once again. If the same thing happens, please proceed to these troubleshooting steps that can resolve the issue:

  1. Re-create damaged EntitlementDataStore.ecml file to resolve license and registration issues
  2. Fix Microsoft .NET Framework, MSXML, and C++ issues using the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool
  3. Reinstall using a clean install

Please let me know how it goes. I'll get back here to make sure everything is good to go.

Hi Montauk et al: I've been having the same problems with the app except that it was opening but not really working properly. Tried reinstalling the app but no difference except that it does not seem to want to open for me at all! Very frustrating, the app tabs make work much easier. Hope yours works for you. I guess I'll keep trying. MF

I am in QBO hell ... app will not launch no matter what I do - just getting the same "we're having trouble ocntacting our authorization servers" message over and over.  Have taken all recommended steps.  Working in a browser is SO inefficient.  Is there an update on fixes to this issue?

Let's make sure that you're able to sort this out, BeauTies.

Aside from resetting the App's data, I have a few more steps to share that can resolve the error. Here's how:

  1. Go to https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-framework/net472
  2. Click "Download .NET Framework 4.7.2 Runtime" to download the file.
  3. Once downloaded, double-click the exe file to install.

Then, open the app again to check if you're able to do it. You can also reach out to our chat or phone support teams just in case you're still getting the same error. Here's an article on how to reach out to them: QuickBooks Online Support
