Why not helpful? That is how you restore a backup (original question). If your program is spinning (not part of the original question) and you cannot connect to the saved backup, perhaps you need to close the program and re-open it. It is also possible that you are restoring from a backup drive (USB stick?). Copy that file to the desktop and restore from there.
If that is not the case, open qb in the add/remove programs and do a repair to the program.
I have restored a company file and renamed it. When I open the file, the banner at the top still shows the old name. How do I update it?

Hello,
My old computer, with QB2018 with QB2018 crashed. I then re-install QB2018 on another computer.
When I try restore a 2017QBB file to the QB2018 on the replacement computer, it cannot restore. The cursor just spins round and round.
So my question is: do i need to convert 2017QBB file to a format compatible to QB2018 ? If so, how do i do this ?
Thank you
hi @mike_eas ,
You can restore old version file on newer version. It might be your QBB file is corrupted or something wrong with your QuickBooks 2018. You should try to install QuickBooks 2019 Pro Trial License and restore your QBB. If you got the same result, it is possible that your file is corrupted. You need to purchase a service to repair it. I could recommend you one later.
Just my 2 cents.
Attempting to restore company file from external hard drive. I keep getting a message that tells me the file is "Read Only'.
I have NOT had this problem before using this same external hard drive. I look at the file and "Read Only" is NOT checked
Thanks for joining the conversation and providing those details, @MRS72.
Since you made sure to remove the read-only attribute and continue to get the same result, let’s try copying the file to your desktop. Then, restore it from there.
Make sure to run QuickBooks as Admin when performing the following steps:

Let's restore the company file afterwards:
If the same thing happens, we can look for another file where we can create a backup. It's possible the file in your drive is corrupted. Then, restore it.
Keep me updated on how this works. Thanks in advance!
