Join nowI am receiving an error message, unable to read/install, every time I try to install my 2008 Desktop Premier Non Profit backup into my new 2020 Desktop Premier Non Profit version. My old computer blew up and I only have the one backup. Please help!
Thank you for contacting us, Lee99,
I'm here to help you today. Due to the update difference of the product, QuickBooks is unable to read your 2008 company file. You can't jump directly to 2020 for the file to be recognized.
You'll want to convert it first to 2011, 2014, 2017, then to 2020. By doing so, you'll be able to restore the file. This is the reason it's always recommended to update QuickBooks once there's a release to prevent damaging your file.
For now, we can only provide you the 2020 trial version of QuickBooks since we no longer support older versions.
Keep me posted if you need additional information. I always have your back.
Thank you and stay safe!
You may convert your old file to QB 2013 at least as the stepping stone prior to open it on your QB 2020. Otherwise, consider purchasing a 3rd party conversion service.
Thank you for your reply. How do we go about stepping up the conversions from 2008 to 2020 we don't have any other versions? Can you do it for us?
We don't have QuickBooks 2013, can you recommend a conversion service?
Hello there, Lee99.
If you’re upgrading to a newer version (year) of QuickBooks Desktop, you’ll also need to upgrade your company files so you can keep using them. You only have to upgrade a company file once.Let's make sure that your created a backup of your company file to ensure that the data will be saved before upgrading.
Once done, you can now upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop Premier 2008 to 2020 version. For your reference, you can check out this article for the detailed steps and information: Upgrade to a New QuickBooks Desktop Version.
