Thanks for dropping by the QuickBooks Community, Slumlord.
I’d be glad to help you with converting QuickBooks Pro 2011 to QuickBooks Pro 2017.
In addition to what our Established Community Backer @qbteachmt answer, you’ll be able to convert the software to a newer version. Before installing QuickBooks Pro 2017, make sure the computer meets the system requirements for the installation process to smoothly work.
Then create a backup copy of your company files to keep a record of your transactions. Let me walk you through the steps:
- First, switch to single user mode by going to File at the top and select Switch to Single-user Mode.
- Go back to the File menu, and select Backup Company.
- Choose Create Local Backup.
- On the Create Backup window, select Local Backup and click on the Options button.
- Choose the Browse button and select where you want to save the file.
- Click on OK.
- Run through the Backup Options window and select the appropriate action, and click on OK.
- In the Create Backup window, click on Next.
- Choose whether to save your backup now, schedule future backups, or both.
- When you’re done, click on Finish.
Next, let's install QuickBooks Pro 2017. I've added a link that will visually guide you through the step-by-step process: Install QuickBooks Desktop.
Once done, you can upgrade the company file to a new QuickBooks version. For more information about the process, click on this link: Upgrade or convert your company file.
That'll do it. By following these instructions, your QuickBooks is already converted to the newer version.
If you have additional questions about the process, keep me posted by leaving a comment below. I’d be glad to lend a helping hand. Wishing you the best
