Desktop 2017 Update

hi, i need some assistance. when i open QB Desktop 2017, an update notice pops up; however, when it tries to update, it attempts to locate a network location that no longer exists (from the old server). I'm not sure why - this location should have nothing to do with QB. It is Error 1606. I cancel and then it says error 1603, which i think is a result of the first error. How do i eliminate these errors so that the update can happen? BTW, I can elect to not update and open QB, but I would need to do this every time.

Error 1606 appears when the Windows user account is damaged or because the network location listed in the error is unavailable. This link provides several options for resolving this error: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1584902-resolve-error-1606-could-not-access-network-location.

Windows Users can become corrupt and the best way to find out if this has happened would be to create a new Windows Administrator account, or activate the hidden Admin account. The hidden Administrator account is one that is built-in within the system. I'd double check with Microsoft support to make sure how this can be done.

Yes, you are correct that QB should be installed on your local machine.

Thanks, Morgan. I cannot uninstall or do a clean install because the first thing that happens is an attempt to access a file location on a server that no longer exists.

Error 1606: Could not access network location "//AMTECSBS2K11\RedirectedFolders\user..."

i retry and it repeats so i have to cancel. Not sure if this matters, but the QB database is located on the server, but the QB program has been downloaded to my local machine. Thanks.

Were you able to try the hidden Windows Administrator account?

If so and you are still receiving these error messages, I'd recommend contacting your IT department or Microsoft support at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/.

i am an administrator and have all privileges. i am correct in assuming QB should be installed on my local machine and not the server, right?
