Re: How do I check bounced email addresses? Help says go to Dashboard and look under Task and Vie...

Hi lboyd1,

Let me help you check your bounced emails.

We can go to your Audit Log if your Dashboard doesn't show any bounced emails. Here's how.

    1. Click on the Gear icon.
    2. Under Tools, select Audit Log.
    3. Find the emailed transaction, then click the View button under History column.
    4. From there, you can check the Delivery Error.

If it's successfully sent, there'll be no error displayed. But if the email not successfully sent, then there'll be a "Bounced Email" status displayed beside it.

Please see the screenshots below for your visual reference.

These instructions let you look at a specific client and see the status of delivery.

This isn't a realistic approach when sending a lot of invoices to a lot of clients.

How would we view a list of all clients/invoices that failed to be delivered? Is there anything that gives you a list of emails that bounced?

Thanks!

Hey there, Eugene1.

Thanks for reaching out to us here in the Intuit Community. It’s my priority that you can conveniently see lists of invoices that fails to deliver.

Aside from looking into the Task feature and opening the Audit Log Report, the Invoice List Report will show you the bounced emails with delivery errors. Let me help you open the report.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports on the left panel, then enter Invoice List in the search field.
  2. Enter the correct period, then click on the small Gear icon in the middle-right hand corner.
  3. Mark the box for Sent, then click anywhere for the changes to take effect.

I’m also adding articles with detailed information of why email bounces and invoices dropped:

The information I provided should point you in the right direction. If you have any follow-up questions or other concerns, post a comment below. I’ll be right here to help you.  Have a good one.

Re: How do I check bounced email addresses? Help says go to Dashboard and look under Task and Vie...

Rasa-LilaM, the Invoice List Report solution you posted does not work -- adding the "Sent" field only shows if an invoice was emailed (NOT if it bounced back, or even was viewed by recipient). Additionally, the instructions you link to on "How to view list of bounced emails with delivery errors" is apparently completely bogus despite being posted so recently -- I've been chatting with a customer rep for an hour now because I don't see the referenced "Tasks" item anywhere and the rep has just told me "Per checking it here the only way for us to check bounced emails is to check them on the invoice or the audit log then click on the invoice. After you open the invoice there will be an error message that shows up." No business should have to open individual invoices or view individual emails in an audit log to see basic information like if an email bounced. Please remedy this!

Thanks for coming back to the Community, sarahpm.

I appreciate you for sharing your experience about the delivery error of emailed invoices.

You're right that the closest report we can get is the Audit Log. From there, you'll have to open each invoice to see the delivery error.

I just don't understand WHY this is such a problem!  You say that you're always "working to make QuickBooks Online exactly what you need for your business" but SERIOUSLY you ALWAYS break something when you introduce a new version.  The main Dashboard HAD a link to this view for close to the last year.  Now "magically" in the last month it has disappeared!  I've been using QBO for 4+ years & it is not at all uncommon for something to disappear or break when something else is released.  You guys seriously need a better testing team!!  Why can't you add this view back to the Dashboard??

Hi Phenom,

I know how surprising it is when a function that's used to be there has been suddenly changed.

We have reported this issue, and our engineers are still working on getting this fixed. As a workaround, you can use the Audit Log report to view the transactions with bounced emails.

Here are the steps:

  1. Click Gear.
  2. Click Audit Log.
  3. Locate the emailed transaction, then click View. You can check the Delivery Error under History column.

If you need help with anything else, please let us know. The Community is always here for you.

Re: How do I check bounced email addresses? Help says go to Dashboard and look under Task and Vie...

SheilaGraceA,

Thank you for your response but as explained by users above, this workaround of checking the audit log is entirely useless when you are trying to figure out WHICH customers may have bouncing emails.  Our techs add several customers a week plus many of our customers change managers, management companies, etc quite regularly.  This means new bouncing emails crop up every week.  It is entirely unrealistic for users to check the audit log for EVERY customer on a weekly basis to make sure no invoices are being kicked back.

I worked for IBM for 10 years on the development team (testing new releases) prior to running our home business so it is very surprising to lose functionality so regularly.  We appreciate the desire of QB to release new functionality in a timely fashion but it is extremely frustrating when features are lost in the process.

A bigger beta test team would be a simple solution to making sure functionality is not lost in the process of rolling out new functionality. I'm sure many of your customers would be more than willing to be part of a group such as this.  You could count me in.

SheilaGraceA,

I appreciate your response.  Unfortunately, as a user has explained, above, when you do NOT know which users are bouncing, checking the Audit log of an individual customer is useless and tedious.  Our techs add several customers a week.  Also, because of the nature of our industry, many of our clients change managers and/or management companies quite frequently.  These all mean constantly changing email addresses so while a customer's emails may have been correct last week, they could be all wrong this week.  It is entirely unrealistic to expect a user to check the Audit logs for ALL their customers weekly just in case an email is now bouncing.

I would agree with you that it is quite "surprising" to lose existing functionality when a new item is released.  I believe a larger BETA Test team would be a simple way to ensure sufficient testing is done to confirm functionality is not lost when introducing new features.  This would greatly improve your overall customer satisfaction as well.  I'm sure several of your customers would be willing to participate in your BETA tests to help cut down on lost functionality.

Re: How do I check bounced email addresses? Help says go to Dashboard and look under Task and Vie...

I agree, this is ridiculous. I just sent out 150 statements and there is no easy way to see who DIDN'T get their statements.

I have 13k over 90 days, and it would be great if I could know who is NOT getting their statements so I can call them!

I do not have the time to open 150 statements to see WHO got theirs.

Fix this!

Oh and add in the option to do assess finance charges which EVERY VERSION OF QB offered in the 20 years I've been using it till QBO!

Arghhhhhhh!

Thanks for looping in, @Dominic23.

I understand how convenient it is for you to see the list of bounced checks in QuickBooks Online. We already sent feedback to our developers to consider adding it in future product enhancements. Rest assured, I’m also taking note of your request regarding the option to assess finance charges.
