Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

Hey @Toyseller,

You'll need to locally install Outlook in your computer to send emails. I'd be happy to add more details about this and help you further.

There are system requirements wherein QuickBooks can be compatible with apps. Also, QuickBooks works best with these operating systems:

  • Windows 10, all editions including 64-bit
  • Windows 8.1 (Update 1), all editions including 64-bit
  • Windows 7 SP1, all editions including 64-bit
  • Windows Server 2016
  • Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Windows Server 2011, Standard and Essentials
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

QuickBooks is also compatible with these Outlook system requirements:

  • Office 2016 (including Outlook 2016) both on 32 and 64-bit
  • Office 2010 and Office 2013 and 365 (including Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013) both on 32 and 64 bit
  • Email Estimates, Invoices and other forms with Microsoft Outlook 2010-2016, Microsoft Outlook with Office 365, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail and Outlook.com

Lastly, you'll need to make Outlook as your default application.

This said, once you've locally installed outlook, it'll work well with your QuickBooks. Then, you'll be able to send emails from there.

You can download the QuickBooks update to get the latest release. Then, try setting up your Send form preference again.

  1. From the Help menu, choose Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click the Update Now tab.
  3. Make sure all updates in the tables are checked.
  4. Put a check mark in the Reset Update checkbox.
  5. Click on Get Updates.

If you still get the same error, please contact our Chat or Phone team to investigate this further.

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

I receive the same message in Quickbooks Desktop 2018 with Outlook (via O365 subscription, latest updates) installed locally on the machine. After speaking with support, they had me uninstall both Office and Quickbooks, then install Office 32-bit, then install Quickbooks. However, after all of that, I still receive the "Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option" message.

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

Thanks for joining the thread, @Anonymous.

I appreciate you contacting our support and did the troubleshooting they suggest. Allow me to provide additional information about the pop-up message.

The possible reason why you're getting that message is that the system requirements aren't compatible with the app. Also, to give you the right amount of information, may I know what version of Office 365 you're using? Any additional information is much appreciated.

QuickBooks Desktop 2018 is compatible with these Outlook system requirements:

  • Office 2016 (including Outlook 2016) both on 32 and 64-bit.
  • Office 2010 and Office 2013 and 365 (including Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013) both on 32 and 64 bit. Note: Office 365 is only supported when it is locally installed, not the web version.

You can read through this article for your reference: System Requirements for QuickBooks 2018 and Enterprise Solutions 18.0.

Feel free to get back into this post if you have more questions. I'll keep an eye out on your response.

Office365 16.0.11601.20174 32bit

QB Accountant Desktop 2018 Release R11P v28.0.4011.0

Which system requirements not compatible with which app?

I have tried the following, at direction of different QB resources/support staff, with no results-

  • Checked win.ini file-- MAPI=1 and MAPIX=1 under [Mail]
  • Tried both QB and Office repair.
  • Uninstalled 64bit Office, uninstalled QB, installed 32bit Office, installed QB.
  • ran vstor installer, uninstalled and re-installed
  • contacted Microsoft support, directed back to QB support
  • created new Outlook profile through Control Panel > Mail > Profiles
  • dozens of computer and app restarts throughout the whole process

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

Thanks for getting back to us, @Anonymous.

I appreciate you letting us know the result after contacting Microsoft and for performing the troubleshooting steps to fix the issue. The information mentioned above is compatible with the system requirements.

Ideally, you should be able to send transactions via Outlook. To identify what's causing the problem, we'll have to access the company file.

I'm unable to perform it here in the Community since it requires account verification. For this reason, I recommend contacting our Technical Support Team again.

They can access the company file in a secure environment as well tools to configure the Email set up. Follow the steps below to contact support.

  1. Go to the Help menu located at the top, then select Ask Intuit.
  2. Scroll down and click on the Contact us link.
  3. Type in the issue/topic in the Search field.
  4. Click the Get Phone Number button.
  5. Choose on how you want to connect with us: Start messaging or Get a callback.

This should get you on the right track. Let me know how it goes after reaching out to our support team. I want to ensure you’re all set with this concern.

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

I did that today before posting here and did not get a resolution. They had me do the QB and Office uninstall and reinstall with 32bit Office, check win.ini, and verify that Outlook was the default email app. When those didn’t work, they gave up and told me to contact Microsoft. Microsoft said to contact QB support.

Is is there somewhere in the registry or a QB file that can be manually updated to tell QB that Outlook is, in fact, already installed? I don’t understand why it can’t see that.

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

Hey there, @Anonymous,

I appreciate you sharing your experience and feedback with setting up your Outlook email in QuickBooks.  I want to make sure you're able to use this feature in the software.

When working with QuickBooks Desktop make sure your software is up-to-date and your program is compatible with our software. You can check the recommended software screen resolution here:

QuickBooks Desktop 2019 System Requirements

QuickBooks Desktop 2018 System Requirements

QuickBooks Desktop 2017 System Requirements

If your computer is compatible, but still getting the same issue, I'd recommend doing a clean installation. This allows QuickBooks to create a new folder to replace broken installation files. Let me guide you on how to do that:

  1. Download the QuickBooks_Clean_Install_Tool.exe file.
  2. Save it to your desktop.
  3. Open QuickBooks_Clean_Install_Utility.exe.
  4. Select I Accept on the license agreement.
  5. Choose the version of your QuickBooks Desktop.
  6. Click on Continue.
  7. Click OK when you see the message "QuickBooks is now ready for a clean install, please install to the default directory."

Here's an article you can check out to know more about installing QuickBooks using clean install: Reinstall QuickBooks for Windows Using Clean Install

Please be reminded to always back up your company file before performing any installation to avoid accidental data loss. Once done, try to check if you can now use Outlook in the Preferences. Here are some resources I've added to guide you with the process:

Set up email service

Outlook is missing in QuickBooks Desktop Send Forms preferences

Please update me on how it goes. I want to make sure this issue gets resolved. Have a good one!

Thanks for following the steps above, mikushie.

There is already an open investigation when sending emails through Outlook. I'd suggest contacting our phone support so your company name will be added to the list of affected users. Rest assured our engineers are working to resolve this issue.

Here's how to contact them:

  1. Go to your Help menu, then QuickBooks Dekstop Help.
  2. Scroll down, and then select Contact Us.
  3. In the Ask a question (or tell us what's wrong) field, enter a brief detail of your concern.
  4. Then, Continue.
  5. Choose either Message an Agent or Talk to a Specialist.

I'd appreciate your patience while we are working to fix this.

Hi mikushie,

Not all calls are billable, it would depend on the concern. Our phone or chat agents can determine that since they follow guidelines for it. I’d recommend contacting them, so they can get and add your contact details to the notification list.

You can find the steps to teach them in this article: Contact the QuickBooks Desktop Customer Support Team.

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

So here is the issue and how I've been able to isolate the problem.  In a nutshell remove the MS Exchange email account.

when i send an email with from QB and an Microsoft exchange email account is listed in as an email account in outlook, the Imap dialog box opens requesting password.  and continues to ask with sequential emails, even after entering and checking remember credentials.

When the Microsoft exchange email account is removed, and only an Imap email (gmail) account is listed, outlook does not produce a dialogue box asking for IMAP password.

Prior to this, 4 weeks ago, 5-17-19, QB has been sending emails regardless of what type of email accounts are in Outlook.  and Outlook as a stand alone program works fine.  so it is not an issue with Outlook.  In addition, I painstakingly wiped my computer and only installed these 2 programs and the results where the same.

Again this issues is recent, 4 weeks. Whatever updates you sent out must have created this conflict, where QB is seeing the Exchange Account as an IMAP and hence the conflict.  as the attach image illustrates.

Please Pass this along to the engineers so this issue can be corrected quickly.

JessT- as for billing, HAHAHA!!.  over and over again i was told i could not be help any further unless i purchased a support plan.  QB creates and issue and the customer is suppose to pay to fix it?  its bad enough that Intuit forces us to upgrade to a new version every 3 year, in fear of losing web connect downloads. Only to receive a marginally updated version.  We should pay for tech support too?  you should be ashamed.  Even MS supports there Products with High level techs years after the sale.

Re: Install Outlook Client on your system to select this option

Thanks for joining us in this thread, DDcheng.

Let's test and repair your MAPI32.dll to resolve possible issues with Outlook and the MAPI settings. If you're unsure in performing these troubleshooting steps, then I suggest reaching out to an IT professional.

  1. Restart your computer to close and reopen Windows.
  2. Let's use and open a blank Word document to test MAPI32.dll functionality

  3. Choose File and select Send.
  4. Click on Email as PDF Attachment.

To repair MAPI32.dll:

  1. Close all open programs.
  2. Click on Windows Start then select Computer.
  3. Go to C:\Windows\System32.
  4. Double-click Fixmapi.exe and follow any onscreen instructions.
  5. After Fixmapi.exe finishes running, let's restart your computer.

For further guidance, refer to this article that will provide more information: QuickBooks is unable to send your email to Outlook.

If you're still unable to send emails, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Technical Support Team. They have specific tools to look at this at a closer view.

Here's how to contact them:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help.
  3. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  4. Click on Contact us.

From there, one of our experts will be able to help you further.

Please keep me posted on how it goes. I want to ensure you're able to send emails from QuickBooks. Take care.
