Moving QB desktop to a server with three computers having access to it

Hello, @epc15.

I want to make sure you're able to move your QuickBooks Desktop Pro into a server with three computers.

I appreciate you for following the steps that were advised to you. Moving the QBDT account has two ways of either installing Migrator Tool or manually transfer it.

If you want to use the migrator tool, make sure these following:

Also, please note that these tools listed won't copy when moving the account to the new one.

  • Multi-user setup
  • Payroll & payment setup
  • Intuit Data Protect (IDP)
  • Older Company Files
  • Backup files

Once confirmed, you can follow the steps below.

  1. On the old computer, go to the File menu on the upper left side.
  2. Choose Utilities, then pick Move QuickBooks to another computer.
  3. Hit I'm ready and set up a one time password.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions on how to copy the file into your flash drive.
  5. Go to the new computer, then insert the flash drive.
  6. Proceed to the list and double click the file Move_QuickBooks.bat to start the migrator.
  7. Enter the password you previously created, then hit Let's go

For manual setup, you can visit this article: Move or reinstall QuickBooks Desktop to another computer.

After that, let's move your company file from your old computer to your new computer.

In regards to accessing it through three computers, you'll need to have a QuickBooks Account with multiple license numbers. What you need to do is install the QBDT server so the other users can use it.

I've also added some articles on how to troubleshoot some errors, manage accounts, and other related topics.

You can leave a comment below if you have follow-up questions. I'm glad to help. Keep safe!

@epc15

Do you have a license of QB Desktop for 1 user or 3 users? You may need a license for 3 users to install a dedicated server as storage to handle up to 3 computers (users) opening the same file at the same time. Another option. you may  install a license of QBD for 1 user on a server and deploy a private cloud. Your 3 users may access the file in turns by internet connection.

thank you so much.  I have to get more licenses.  That is what I thought but that was not the answer I was given when I called support.
