null error message while installing QuickBooks Enterprise16

Hello there, neverask and NicoR,

Both QuickBooks Enterprise 2016 and 2017 are no longer supported. You'll want to download on of these instead:

Make sure to meet the system requirements before installing the latest supported versions. Go here to download: https://downloads.quickbooks.com/app/qbdt/products

Check this article for more information: Install QuickBooks Desktop.

I'll be here if you have additional questions.

I have the same issue.

I have Enterprise 17.

This is the first time I am trying to install in the newest Win10 update (Windows 10 Pro Version 2004 build 19041.264).

I tried V20 and installed without problems. Too bad isn't the one I need now.

Not sure if Microsoft has anything to do with this.

Hopefully someone has a solution for the older version.

@NicoR @neverask

You should install the QB 2018 and/or QB 2019 on your machines and compare it to your current QB. We are not recommended using any unsupported QB version (i.e 2017 or older) on a supporting Windows (i.e W8.1 or W10).

@neverask

Login to your CAMPS and find the code for your 2018 and 2019 license.

Hello there,

I'm joining this thread so I can share more details about installing QuickBooks Desktop.

We need to have the correct license number for the 2018 version. That way, we can install it without errors. In order to get it, you'll need to login to CAMPs.

Please check this article for more details: What is CAMPs and how do I use it?

Please comment again if you need anything else. Have a great day!

If you don't have any access to CAMPS and find your license information in there, it is possible your QBES Accountant 2016 is a one time license. You may upgrade your license to QBES Accountant 2020 with the subscription plan. If you don't support any client with QBES, you may consider using QB 2020 Premier Accountant for 10 users with a one time license. It costs around $3000 thru a partner/reseller. You may also need to purchase a 3rd party service to downgrade your current QBW file(s) to be open on it.

will I be able to restore an accountant's copy with the 2018 Enterprise edition?

Thank you for joining this thread, mts1203sa,

Yes, you should be able to restore an Accountant's copy with the 2018 Enterprise edition. Just make sure both the client and accountant are using the same version or year of QuickBooks Desktop.

Or work on the Accountant's Copy using a different version as long as the gap between the versions is just one year. And, the accountant has a more recent version.

For example:

  • Client: QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 2018

    Accountant: QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Accountant Edition 2018

  • Client: QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 2017

    Accountant: QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Accountant Edition 2017 or 2018

You can also refer to the Use the Accountant's Copy for additional information. It will also show the workflow on how to transfer the file.

Stay in touch with me by leaving a comment below. Just tag my name and I'm glad to help.

Thank you and stay safe!

I have a new computer and I need to download Quickbooks Enterprise 16.0 so I can use my existing company file.  It keeps giving me a Null error when I try to download it.  Is it really true that I am being forced to upgrade to download something I already own?  Why offer the download on your website if you won't allow it work???  Really need some support here.

I've checked our records, Kmoore245. There's an open investigation about the null error.

Rest assured that our engineers are working hand in hand for this issue to be resolved. While we're waiting for the fix, I'd suggest reaching out to our customer care support. We're taking notes of our affected customers. Here's how:

  1. Visit our website.
  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Click Continue as a guest.
  4. Select your Desktop version.
  5. Click QuickBooks Setup & Navigation, then select Installing QuickBooks.
  6. Select Start a Message.

Regarding the upgrade, we're not forcing anyone. Although, we've discontinued add-on services for unsupported versions like QuickBooks 2016. For more details, you can check this article about QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy and upgrade information.

Feel free to post anytime in the Community. We're open 24/7 to help you. Take care!

I found that the null error started to occurred pretty much at the same time Intuit discontinued support for Enterprise 2017.  Simultaneously, all versions lower than the latest had the same problem.  I tried to get these versions to install when mine would not.   It seems that there must have been a code change, or a server verification change to caused this.  Is Intuit planning to fix this error for 2016 and 2017?  It seems unfair for Intuit to force people to upgrade in this manner.

If I install QuickBooks Enterprise 18 or later, doesn't that mean that I have to upgrade ALL instances of QB to the same version? What if that's too difficult for our business? Is there a way that once I upgrade this one PC to the 18 or later vision, I can revert it to Version 17 like all of our other PCs?

Hello, N00b.

I'll give details regarding the upgrade process and what to do with older QuickBooks Desktop versions.

I take it that you're using a multi-user setup. You would need to upgrade QuickBooks Enterprise to the same version (2018 or later) for your other PCs. You would just need to upgrade the one you're using, not necessarily all of the editions (Pro, Premier, etc).

Make sure to check the QuickBooks Enterprise 2018 requirements before upgrading. If you need help installing it, the complete guide can be found here: Install QuickBooks Desktop.

Also, you have the option to keep the 2017 version so there's no need to revert the new version. During the installation, there will be a prompt if you'd like to keep or remove it from your PC.

Take note that when you convert and open the company file on the 2018 version (or newer), we're unable to use it on older QuickBooks Desktop copies (version 17 in your case).

You can check the company file upgrade guide if you need help: Upgrade your company files after switching to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.

After installing, I'd recommend reading our articles if you need help getting things done in QuickBooks Desktop. You can also open the built-in Help feature. Simply press the F1 key to open the Have a question? window.

@N00b

Do you have an older QB Desktop Enterprise edition with a one time license? If you don't prefer upgrading to current Enterprise edition with the subscription policy, consider downgrade it to Pro/Premier with a one time license.

Is there any update on this issue? Online support has stated this as a resolution:

"Other than running the tool and trying to uninstall reinstall, there isn't alot that we can do but recommend you to upgrade to a new supported version of Quickbooks"

It is frustrating to have a valid license for 2017 but be unable to use it. I am receiving the exact same NULL message as others in this thread. I have requested my issue be added to INV-46913. Just wanting to publicize my issue to increase visibility.

Hello there, @coxcse.

You've come to the right place for assistance. I'd be glad to provide some info, so you're able to upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop account.

Since QuickBooks Enterprise 2017 has reached the end of it's supported time frame, you'll want to download one of these versions instead:

Once you've ensured the system requirements have been met, you can refer to this article to continue with the download: QuickBooks Downloads

For more information on installing QuickBooks, you can check out this article: Install QuickBooks Desktop.

Dear Support Team,

I am Trying to install my QuickBooks Enterprise 2016 and Enterprise 2017 Products but i am unable to install, getting the null error like others, Intuit Team is asking again and again to download Enterprise 2018, 2019 or 2020, but its not for free, if someone purchased their software at onetime cost (lifetime license) then why we need to purchase or upgrade for the latest version as long as we are happy with our current software and we don't need add on's which are discontinued. I am getting lots of call's from my colleagues and my clients, but we are unable to help them.

On some PC's we are getting null error and on some PC's it says "Subscription error".

I am already using Enterprise 2020 for one of my businesses, but we cannot afford to upgrade all our business by paying subscription.

We are requesting Intuit Team to kindly fix the issue so that we can continue our work smoothly.

Thanks

@Ali Khan

Consider xgrade to QBD 2020 Premier with a one time license. For 1 user license, you may purchase it for $500 directly or less than $400 thru a partner/reseller.
