QB 2018 crash after bank memo

Hi,

Must have started after recent windows update. While entering banking transactions > Action > Add More Details > I add something to the memo field > Save and Close > Some long error pops up > CRASH.

On the rare occasion it doesnt crash, it then prevents me from using the Action > Add More Details button.. Just doesnt respond

I updated QB and installed/ ran the QB install diagnostic tool.

thanks

If you've run the Hub Repair and it did not fix the issue, it sounds like your OLBUICustomControlLibrary.dll and/or the related info appears to be corrupt.  You can do the additional research, but you might as well skip to the end.  The fastest fix is probably going to be to just reinstall.

  • BACKUP:  Before you do anything else, copy your [filename].qbw file and any logo files you have to a couple of safe locations.  (e.g. Desktop and to a removable drive if you have one or into a new folder on the Root of the C:\ drive)
  • If you haven't completed them, do ALL your Windows Updates.  Reboot and recheck until there are no more updates.  Sometimes you have to complete one update before the others will install.
  • Uninstall Quickbooks
  • Delete the old files, yes, overkill, but sometimes helps.  They are probably located in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks 20xx)
  • Reboot
  • Reinstall

When QBs launces, you do not need to create a file, choose the option to Open and Existing File and navigate to your original [filename].qbw file that you backed up at the beginning of all this.  Once loaded, feel free to run the Hub again to make sure everything is okay.

If for any reason you cannot find your original file.  Take either of the Backups and Copy it to where you want the data to be.  Then again navigate to your data file and open your company file.

Once you're sure all is good.  Try the Bank Feed again.

Pending how many Windows updates you have, the whole process should be less than 30 min.

QB 2018 crash after bank memo

Hello, @wizardlips.

I thank you for sharing the troubleshooting steps you've performed. Here the possible reasons why QuickBooks crashes while managing your transactions.

  • QuickBooks is not updated.
  • The program does not meet the minimum system requirements.
  • Damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file.
  • Corruption on your hard drive.
  • Damaged program files or QuickBooks Desktop installation.
  • Damaged Windows operating system

Let's download and install the Quickbooks Tool Hub to resolve this concern

  1. Close the QuickBooks Desktop application.
  2. Download the QuickBooks Tool Hub file.
    • Save the file somewhere you can easily find it.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Once completed, let's run the Quick Fix to repair your program.

  1. In the QuickBooks Tool Hub, select Program Problems.
  2. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  3. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

If the issue persists, you can perform the steps under solution 3 of this article: What To Do If You Can't Open QuickBooks Desktop.
