What happened to the triple bar icon to collapse the left tool bar? What is the Hamburger icon? And now how do I close that?

I'm happy to help you get your navigation bar back on the left-hand side.

 

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you have the option to see or not see that sidebar by clicking the three-lined menu at the top left of the screen. When QBO has unexpected behavior, it is recommended to use a private browser. Cache tends to hold onto information and, after a while, it can cause issues in the web pages.

 

Here are the keyboard shortcuts that will help you accomplish this in all supported browsers:

  • Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N
  • Internet Explorer: Ctrl+Shift+P
  • Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+
  • Safari: Command+Shift+N

Once able to open a private window, kindly try to access your QBO again. If it works, to ensure this doesn't happen again, it's a good idea to clear the cache of the browser you're using.

 

For more information about the supported computer and browser in QBO, please refer to this article: System requirements for QuickBooks Online, Accountant, and Self-Employed.

 

As for the hamburger icon, it's just the same with the triple bar icon you're referring to in which the option to close it is unavailable.

I tried the steps you provided and still did not have the hamburger come back

To help pinpoint the cause of this behavior, I suggest trying an alternative browser. So that I can provide you the best resolution, it would be helpful to know which browsers you try.

 

 

Should the menu not reappear, I recommend checking your browser zoom settings and the setup of your computer display. For further insight into this process, as well as steps to configure them, please see the following article: Unable to see the entire page in QuickBooks Online.

My icon is missing as well. It's missing both on the app and web browser version. This seems like an application error. Is this being fixed??

Yes, I can confirm that our engineers are already working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

 

Please contact our phone support for us to collect your account info add you to list of affected users. It will also serve as a notification list and email you whenever updates are posted.

 

Here's how to reach out to them:

 

  1. Click the Help menu in the upper-right hand of QBO. 
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Let them know that your side bar or hamburger icon is missing, then click Let's talk.
  4. Select Get a callback and enter the required info. You can also click Start a chat if you want to reach out to our Chat Support Team.

 

I'll also revisit and tag you in this thread once we receive a notification from our engineers that it's already sorted out.

Issue is NOT solved. In Chrome and in the QBO app for MAC the three lines have VANISHED. Telling us to click on the lines and make the left navigation bar vanish or reappear is really useless. Please someone fix this issue as that left hand bar makes the register area much smaller to work with. Thank you. See screenshot and you'll see the 3 parallel lines are nowhere in sight above the nav bar.

Same here.  I did find that if I minimize the window and play with the sizing that the hamburger menu does show up, but I am not going to accept that as a solution.

The Engineering team is currently looking into reports of users not having the option to hide the left navigation panel. If you'd like to be added to the list of affected users, please contact the Online Customer Support team. They can pull up your information in a secure environment and sign you up to receive updates as soon as they're made available. 

 

To expedite this process, please mention INV-37297 to the agent since this is the ticket that's being used to track the issue. 

 

In the meantime, some users have been able to get the Hide option to reappear by reducing the browser window. I've included a brief video to serve as a visual reference:

Hope this is fixed soon. I work on a fairly small MacBook and it's very annoying to have to make my screen even smaller to be able to see my entire register.

While this issue with missing icon is still under investigation, I encourage you to get in touch with our Customer Care Support so you'll be added to the containment list. This is QuickBooks way of sending updates and progress of the investigation. 

 

You can also provide the link of this thread to our phone specialist so they can have a grasp of the steps you've done and continue with the other troubleshooting.

Let's switch to a different browser like Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Safari. The one you are currently on maybe having a temporary issue with QuickBooks, and using a new browser will allow you to get back to work.

 

If the same thing happens, I suggest contacting our Customer Support Team so you'll be added to the list of affected users and receive updates as soon as they're made available. Let me show you how to do it.

Here's how: 

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online Company.
  2. Click Help (?) at the upper right corner.
  3. Select Contact US on the pop-up.
  4. Hit Continue.
  5. Select Get a callback.
  6. Enter your contact information.
  7. Click Call me.

Changing browser doesn't affect the problem. The issue happens with both the web version and the app.

  3. Under the Choose a way to connect with us page, you'll get options on how to contact our support. Other than asking from the community, you can select Get a callback or Start messaging.
