Why do I have to complete secure connection every time I attempt to update my banking info recently.

My bank log in and password are correct, but it makes me put in a phone number and then enter a code everytime.
It just started doing this about a week ago

Why do I have to complete secure connection every time I attempt to update my banking info recently.

Good day, joshbrown.

There might be an update to your bank in which a third-party connection needs to be verified. This process is called Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), which means that there's an additional security requirement beyond your bank login credentials.

You'll want to run 3 to 5 manual updates until the automatic updates begin to work normally. However, this information is stored in a cookie, so this could expire anytime. If your cookie expires, manually update your account twice in a row to reset this cookie.

If you're having problems connecting your account or getting an error, follow these steps.

Why do I have to complete secure connection every time I attempt to update my banking info recently.

I have no issue logging into the bank from the same web browser using another tab. I contacted the bank and nothing has changed on their end. Prior to this happening there was one day where quickbooks was reading that my log in was I correct, but I had not changed it prior to this error, and I was able to log in to the bank using those credentials. I have not changed them and now it is using them but requiring me to do the code verification.

I have verified this dozens of times.

It is annoying that everytime quickbooks attempts to update my banking info it needs this.

3 other banking (credit card) accounts do not require this authentication every time. 2 are Amex and one is a credit card with the same banking institution I am having the issue with on the checking side.

Thanks for providing us more details, @joshbrown.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) is in compliance with your bank institution security. As my colleague, JaneD stated above. You'll want to call the bank institution of your checking account.

From there, they can provide you the right information on why you need to enter a verification code. Once done, you'll want to run 3 to 5 manual updates until the automatic updates take effect.

You can also visit our Banking and bank feeds page for more reference in case you want to learn some tips on managing your bank feeds.

Why do I have to complete secure connection every time I attempt to update my banking info recently.

I had already contacted the bank. They made no changes on their end.

The impetus of this began when I was getting an error logging in. It said my credentials were invalid. I was able to log in to my online banking with those credentials, but I changed them anyway just to be sure. It did not make a difference.

The next day the credentials worked through quickbooks online, however I received the one time code requirement. When I do that it works until the next time quickbooks online runs an update. at that time it requires the code again. I have entered the code 12 times since January 2nd. It always works and allows me to update the banking info.

The issue is that it always requires the code. through quickbooks. Even during the same web browser session.

I do not have to ever put in the code when accessing my banks online banking website, after the first time using that same computer/web browser.

Hello again, @joshbrown. Thank you for letting me know the error message you are receiving.

The error (185) message is related to the bank credentials being incorrect. With  Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), my colleagues @JaneD and JasroV are correct with this means your bank has increased its security and needs to provide more information to be accessible.

I want to give you the best possible support, so I recommend calling our Online Support. They have the proper tools to correct this issue.

Just go to this article, Contact Support, and it will walk you through the steps on how to get in touch with them.

If you have any more questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach back out — best wishes to you and your business.

that might be what your error message is supposed to be for, but I was assured by my bank that nothing had changed, and as far as I can tell it hasn't. Logging into online banking has been the same as it was for the last 2 years.

I will go through the contact support link again.
