transferring quickbooks 2009 to 2017

Hello, ncsparky1.

What you're going to have to do is upgrade your company file. I'm going to list the steps below and also include a helpful link that breaks down the process in detail.

Here's how:

Install QuickBooks

  •  Sign in to Windows as an admin user
  •  If you haven't already. download your newer version of QuickBooks Desktop (Based off your description it sounds like you did this step already)
  • Follow the steps to install your new version

Prep your company file

  • Open the Original version of QuickBooks. (QB Pro 2009 in your case) Then open the company file you want to upgrade.
  • Press F2 to open the Product Information window
  • Look in the File information section. Note where your company file is saved on your computer.
  • Run the Rebuild Tool for your company file. This preps it for upgrade.

Upgrade your company file

  • Make sure all users are logged out of your company file.
  • Open your new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Select Open or Restore Company if you don't have a company file open. You can also go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
  • Select Open a company file, then Next. If you have a backup company file (QBB) instead of a company file (QBW), select Restore a backup copy and then Local back.
  • Browse your computer for your company file. You wrote down the file location in Step 1. Select it and then select Open
  • Sign in to your company file as an admin user.
  • Before you upgrade, QuickBooks automatically creates a backup of your existing company file. You can select Change the default location to save the backup in a specific folder.
  • Select Update Now to start the upgrade.
  • When QuickBooks is finished, select Done

You will now have the latest software release when you've finished these steps. For additional insight into this process, check out the link below.
