Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, @scubachik2.

Converting your data file from QuickBooks for Mac to QuickBooks Online depends on your company file size, the bigger the file, the longer it'll be converted. It also depends on the performance of the computer and if the data is damaged.

To know what causes the issue lets verify and rebuild your data in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Here's how:

  1. Back up your company file.
  2. To Verify your data, go to the File tab and select Utilities.
  3. Click Verify Data, then select OK to close all the windows.
  4. If you're prompted by “Your data has failed the integrity check” you need to rebuild your file. If there are no problems with your data, you’re done.
  5. To Rebuild your data, go to the File tab and select Utilities.
  6. Click Rebuild Data, then hit OK to close all windows.
  7. Select OK if you want to make a backup copy and Cancel to continue.
  8. Select Backup Preferences and edit as needed, then click OK.
  9. When the finished backup, click Show in Finder to locate the backup or select OK if you’re done.
  10. Select OK, once the rebuild is done.

@scubachik2

Which QB Mac version (year) do you have? 2019 or older? Utilize the trial license of QB Mac 2020 to migrate to QBO if your MacOS supports it.

 If you have to open a new QBO account, make sure to click the Buy button to get the discounted price for up to 6 months. If you purchase from the trial account, you have to pay the regular price.

My QB for Mac is 2020.  My business shows 7,100 total transactions and 21,801 targets.

My file size is as follows: 7,100 transactions. 21,801 targets.  I will take your suggestion and try it this weekend when I have time to spend on it.  I actually only use my QB for Mac to post sales and receipts and expenditures.  I don't have payroll, bill clients, pay bills etc.  I've been using this for many years and can complete my work quickly.   I use QBOL basically as a cloud based backup in case my mac crashes.  I'm not tech savvy by any means so I find this process easiest for me.  The QBOL has a different data input process that takes more time for me.
