Update 2010 to 2018

I am changing my QB PC. It has Accountant Edition 2010

New PC is being installed with Pro 2018. After I install Pro 2018 on a brand new computer can I just move the qbw file from the old PC to the new PC and open the company file in Pro 2018 to initiate the upgrade?

Not sure if you can go from 2010 straight to 2018. You may have to go to 2012 first. I would back up the 2010 file & restore it with the 2018 program & the upgrade the file.

If you only have the .qbw, that is Not Enough; you should see an entire Folder and Subfolders and lots of files that use the Company File name as part of their names. You would Copy the entire Company Files folder and all subfolders to the new computer and then try to use Open Existing File.

seen this post was wondering had my computer wiped dont have my 2010 version anymore but trying to get my info to upload to 2019

Thanks for joining the Community today. I can share some information with you about uploading your 2010 files QuickBooks Desktop 2019 version. 

 

If you've restored a backup copy of your company file which is stored on a flash drive or any forms of a portable drive, you can still upload it to your QuickBooks 2019 version. Also if you have an online backup for your files it can also be uploaded to your current QuickBooks.

 

However, if you don't have any of those options we can no longer retrieve your files since we don't have a copy of it.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Desktop company.

My backups are in QB Pro 2016 but CAMPS says I never upgraded to 2016 from 2011.  My service key and product code do not allow me to download 2016 , even the one that I noted as new Service Key and product code.  All that I can download is 2011 and it doesn't open my 2016 back ups.  I really think I have paid for the upgrade to 2016.  I don't really want to get 2011 working.  I want what I bought and I know that at the end of the month I a probably going to have to go to at least 2018... I am even willing to do that if I have to.  Yesterday, I paid $696 for Payroll and can't access anything.  My employees want their check.

It seems there is no phone service and I can't access chat with 2011 that I loaded tonight because it was all I could do.  Not happy.

  1. In your QuickBooks 2011, click on the Help menu, or go to this website: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact and click on Continue as a guest
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Click on Contact us link at the bottom uf the Have a Question window.
  4. Choose Account Management & Orders, choose Customer Account Management Portal, then Manage Products & Services, Account Details, Payment & Order History & Account Contacts
  5. Click on Start a Message.

If you're trying to update your 2016 file to your QuickBooks 2018, you can simply create a backup of your 2016 file. Once done, restore the file to your QuickBooks 2018.
