Re: Update

Just confirm that it is asking to Update, not Upgrade.  Update will add whatever patches have not been added to your QB2016.  Obviously nothing "new" but it will bring your software up to the latest update they had on QB2016.

Upgrade will take you to a screen to purchase the latest QB2019 software.  You can easily cancel out if you hit it by mistake.

If you want to use the Bank Feed - automatic download from your bank and payment of of bills - you will need to upgrade to QB2019.  The End of Life for QB2016 was in May, so this function will no longer work.  QB2016 will continue to work just fine on your computer, just the online options and support through Intuit has stopped.

I don't use foreign currency rates, but typically with QBs you need to set those numbers before using them.  Even if you can modify them after the fact.  I've found that you're better off setting them first, then making sure the numbers come out the way you're expecting them to.  If not, it's much easier to just back out to where you started if you haven't done anything else.  (Always make a Backup if you're about to try something new!)

You may want to post a new message just on Foreign Currency and someone that uses those areas of QBs is more likely to see your question.

Re: Upgrade

It's nice to have you back, @Desiree 869,

Yes, that's correct. QuickBooks ends its support for live help and online features or integrated services after 3 years of the software version. (Example: QuickBooks 2017 will discontinue support after May 31, 2020. If you aren't using any add-on services, your product will continue to work for you.

Regarding your second question, choosing the right QuickBooks software for your business requires thorough review as each version differs in features and data accessibility. If you want to keep track of your account simultaneously, you may want to try QuickBooks Online. It provides mobility when working with your accounting tasks as it can be accessed online or any mobile device anytime.

QuickBooks Desktop, on the other hand, is generally the best solution if you are a product-based business. It supports complex inventory tracking needs as it has industry-specific versions.

Re: Upgrade

Thank you Pete, for your quick reply.

I was having another question regarding the upgrade.

I don't have access to update the foreign currency, just because I am having the older version.

From what I understood, I need to purchase the newer quickbook, is that right?

Re: Upgrade

Welcome back, @Desiree 869,

I can add a bit more about upgrading your QuickBooks desktop software.

Yes, you're right. Based on the screenshot you've attached to your post, it looks like you're using an unsupported QuickBooks version. Last May 31, 2019, QuickBooks Desktop 2016 for Windows and Mac is discontinued after its three (3) years supportability period.

After the discontinuation, access to add-on services like Multi-currency or Exchange Rate is no longer supported. This is the reason why you're unable to use or turn on this feature to assign specific currency types to your profiles and accounts in QuickBooks Desktop.

I've attached some references below to help you check what's new with QuickBooks Accountant 2019 before you upgrade your software:

Please update me if you have any more questions with upgrading QuickBooks. I'll be more than happy to help in any ways I can. Have a great weekend!

Re: Upgrade

Hello Jen

Thanks for your reply.

From what I understood,

1 I need to purchase another software after every three years of support by the quickbook team.

2 If I have to purchase, could you recommend of online or desktop in the long run?

3 How much would it be?
