Updates Issues QB Pro 2017

I recently installed my copy of QuickBooks Pro 2017 on a new computer.  I ran updates and found that the Maintenance Releases was over 5GB and QB's download speed was dialup speed...

I headed over to download.quickbooks.com and downloaded the Get Updates Now qbwebpatch program and ran that, it indicated success.   Ran QB, updates, 5GB download still, and still dialup speed.   I ran back over to downloads.quickbooks.com and downloaded QB Pro 2017 and ran that installer (I verified that afterwards I was running R12_17, which seems to be the latest version.)   Updates, 5GB downloads still, and still dialup speeds.

Is there a direct download or something I can do to fix this issue other than buy a new version of QB or worse, subscribe to the online version?

QB will download all of the updates it does not have - whether or not it needs them.  The down-loader just looks to the web to see what is new there and gets it.  The installer later determines what to actually use.

Just let it do its thing and when it is done then it won't download again.

Thanks.

I don't like the answer, not because you're wrong or I don't believe it, it's just annoying that it bogs the computer down like it does.   So it goes I suppose...

How does it bog down your computer? I've never experienced that...

Re: Updates Issues QB Pro 2017

Eats all the network bandwidth on the network interface so anything that requires network access gets hung up.   I didn't realize it was QB until I moved it to another computer and the computer without it returned to normal, and the "new" one bogged down.

I thought it was doing the shared download somehow, but it's not.   I only open the software quarterly so I'm guessing I missed some major updates that began the whole thing.    In any event, I'll just leave the computer on for a few days and see if it ever gets the update done.

I wonder how it can both eat up your network and be glacially slow?

It should take perhaps 30 minutes.  I did a major update the other day for QB 2017 and it took about 10 minutes.  Way too slow, but not as you're describing.

Re: Updates Issues QB Pro 2017

That's what I would expect, it's only 6.5 GB of updates it wants to download.   Maybe it's A/V interfering or something, but it is some conflict with QB and if it's not a Win 10 issue, it would have to be A/V or common drivers...I'll continue to poke at it.

Thanks for getting back to the QuickBooks Community, OBATRON

Allow me to join this thread and help share some information about downloading QuickBooks to the latest release.

Once you downloaded qbwebpatch program successfully, the latest release of QuickBooks Desktop should automatically be updated.  Since you have the QuickBooks patch, let's try to update your QuickBooks release in another way by following the steps below:

  1. With QuickBooks Desktop open, press the F2 key (or Ctrl+1) on your keyboard.
  2. On the Product Information window, check the current version and release.
  3. Follow the detailed steps for latest release for your QuickBooks 2017

For additional reference, you can check this article: Update to the latest release of QuickBooks Desktop

If the same thing happens, I encourage you to contact our QuickBooks Desktop Technical Support Team. They have the tools to do a remote session and investigate this further.

Here's how you can contact our customer support:

  1. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help from the Help menu.
  2. You can also press F1 on your keyboard to bring up the same Help Panel
  3. In order to route you to the correct support expert, we need to know what type of question you have.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. We’ll provide you a few options. You choose which one is best for you.

Please let me know how it goes. I'll be here to keep helping if you have any other concerns. Have a good one.

Re: Updates Issues QB Pro 2017

Thanks for the reply, that was one of the steps I did.   I'm pretty sure it's showing the latest release.  I let it run all day yesterday and it finally got the maintenance Releases 41% downloaded.   I'll try customer support, but it will have to wait until later in the week now.

Thanks again,

Bob

Re: Updates Issues QB Pro 2017

Hello @Andiwithni,

Welcome and Thanks for joining the Community.

Since you've already tried the steps provided by my colleague, then now let's ensure a back up of your company file before we can perform other options. This can help improve performance in QuickBooks that used to track changes to your company file before they're written to the database. Let me help you how.

1. Click the File menu.
2. Choose Backup Company
3. Select Create Local Backup.
4. Choose Local Backup and click Options.
5. In the Tell us where to save your back up copies, choose your Desktop.
6. Ensure that Complete Verification is selected.
7. Click OK.
8. Choose Save it Now and click Next.
9. In the Save Backup Copy window, choose your Desktop.

10. Click Save.

QuickBooks will now generate a backup file saved on the desktop. Once done, you can proceed to resolve the QuickBooks Desktop performance issue.

That will get you fixed right up! But if you’re still getting the same issue, please let me know so we could try other steps to get this working for you. I’m always here to help.
