Re: Upgrade QB Desktop 2016 to QB 2019 Help?

Appreciate the complete detail of you concern, @KaLEL.

Let's first install the new version of QuickBooks on the server and update your company file so you'll be able to share it out to other users.  I'd be glad to walk you through in doing so.

Here's how:

  1. Double-click the installer for your QuickBooks and start the Installation Wizard.
  2. Choose Next if the computer is connected to the Internet and able to download an update. If not, select No, then Next.
  3. Close other open programs, then click Next.
  4. Read the terms of the Software License Agreement. If you agree, select I accept the terms in the license agreement, then select Next.
  5. Select Custom or Network Options.
  6. Choose an installation type:
  7. Select Yes, allow access.
  8. Enter the License Number and Product Number (the text at the bottom of the window tells you where to look for it).
  9. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Once completed, you can now setup the Database Server Manager.

Re: Upgrade QB Desktop 2016 to QB 2019 Help?

Thank you for choosing QuickBooks and doing business with us, @KaLEL.

I can help you upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop 2016 to 2019 before it becomes unsupported.

To begin, you'll have to install and activate your new QuickBooks:

  1. Visit our Downloads & Updates page to select your product and version.
  2. Follow the prompts about the installation process.
  3. Check your email to get the the new license and product numbers.

Since you're accessing QuickBooks file from a server, update and save it on your own computer's drive. Save a backup copy on a flash drive and then restore it to your computer.

  • After upgrading, move your file back to the same folder location on the server computer.
  • Run the Rebuild tool before upgrading to avoid data issues during or after file conversion.

Next, we'll have to update the QuickBooks company file. This ensures the company file is compatible with the updated QuickBooks version. Make sure to create a backup before converting the file to be safe and avoid data loss.

  1. Make sure all other users are logged out of the company file, and you're logging in as the Admin.
  2. On the top menu, click File
  3. Select Open or Restore Company.
  4. Choose Open a company file or Restore a backup copy, then Next.
  5. Find and select your company file, then click Open.
  6. Select Update Now to proceed. QuickBooks runs a full backup before updating your file. If you want to change where the backup will be saved, select Change this default location.
  7. Select Done once QuickBooks has updated your company file.

That should guide you through the steps, @KaLEL. For additional reference, check out the Upgrade to a new QuickBooks Desktop version article.

After trying this, be sure to let me know how this works for you. I'm still here to help you more if you have follow-up questions. Wishing you all the best!

Re: Upgrade QB Desktop 2016 to QB 2019 Help?

Thank you for your help

See replies in red:

These first steps are a little confusing ??

To begin, you'll have to install and activate your new QuickBooks:

Where do I do this at first the server or desktops? QB 2016 is already activated so I just need to run 2019 and upgrade ?

I have bought all QB downloads and license needed

  1. Visit our Downloads & Updates page to select your product and version.

Did this already?

  1. Follow the prompts about the installation process.
  2. Check your email to get the the new license and product numbers.

Did this

Since you're accessing your QuickBooks file from a server, update and save it on your own computer's drive. Save a backup copy on a flash drive and then restore it to your computer.

Do I need to do this update and save on the server and put file somewhere else after I do this?

OK I understand this but need clarification of the above

  • Run the Rebuild tool before upgrading to avoid data issues during or after file conversion.

Next, we'll have to update your QuickBooks company file. This ensures your company file is compatible with the updated QuickBooks version. Make sure to create a backup before converting the file to be safe and avoid data loss.

This is confusing I thought we did this up above??

Re: Upgrade QB Desktop 2016 to QB 2019 Help?

Thank you very much juVielL

This makes more sense after I do this I assume I go to the CFO pc with 2016 Accountant and do that setup and upgrade?

Then go to each desktop that has QB 2016 Desktop and run the QB 2019 Desktop and up grade those pc

All should be good then correct ?

Do I need to make a copy of the company file on the server an put it some where else like mentioned above?

Re: Upgrade QB Desktop 2016 to QB 2019 Help?

You're on the right track, @KaLEL.

You're correct! Once the company file is updated in the server and each versions of QuickBooks on each workstation you're all good. Just make sure to turn on the multi-user feature so other users will be able to access it. Let me walk you through in doing so.

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Host Multi-User Access.
  4. Click Yes on the confirmation window.

On the other hand, you can keep the backup copy you've initially created on a safe location. You may check this article for the best practices after updating company file: Upgrade to a new QuickBooks Desktop version.

Fill me in of you have other questions about managing your company file. I'm just a few clicks away.

Re: Upgrade QB Desktop 2016 to QB 2019 Help?

What impact does this upgrade have on the web connector?

We currently have the Web Connector in use with Concur and we cannot have it break during the update.

Thanks!

Re: Upgrade QB Desktop 2016 to QB 2019 Help?

Hi there, @crshovrd41.

You've got me here to provide some details about updating QuickBooks and using the Web Connect feature.

Are you running QuickBooks update and the Web Connect at the same time? If so, running this process should be done one at a time to avoid any issues. If you encounter errors upon updating or using Web connect it, here are some troubleshooting steps that you can check out in fixing the issue:

If the problem continues after trying these steps, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care Team for further investigation.

Please let me know if you're referring to something else or if you have any other questions concerning QuickBooks. I want to ensure you're taken care of. Thanks for coming!

Re: Upgrade QB Desktop 2012 Enterprise Solutions to QB 2019 ProHelp?

I was able to install the new QB 2019 Pro on my computer but when I went to restore the backup from Enterprise it gave me a message that I can only update to Enterprise 2019. I need all of my company files en-order to continue entering everything for this year.
