Upgrade

I have recently replaced someone who was still utilizing QB Pro 99 to manage dividend checks to our small number of shareholders. Our outside accounting firm wants me to update to the latest version of QB (2021) for many obvious reasons. However, I am wondering if it is even possible to make that large of a jump with by file and I also do not have the admin password nor do I know who registered the product originally in 1999. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Alex

Hello there, @AlexP6040. Welcome to the Community.

When you upgrade from an older version (QB Pro 99) of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to the latest one (QB 2021), you'll first have to create a backup or your file. Then, make sure your computer meets the system requirements. This ensures that the software is compatible with your new computer to get the best experience in using QuickBooks.

The QBDT system has a 3-year life cycle. Though you're making a large jump in upgrading the program, it's still possible to do so with the assistance of our support. With this, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care team. They can provide you options on how to easily upgrade QBDT to the latest version and restore/update your file.

For the step-by-step guide on how to contact QBDT support (either inside or outside of the product), I'd recommend checking out this article: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support. It also include the support hours to make sure we can assists you on time.

In the meantime, I'm also adding this article to learn more about QBDT: User Guides. You can get do-it-yourself articles, training, and pro advice that will help you get familiar with the program.

Let me know how it goes in the comments below. If you have other concerns about upgrading QuickBooks to its latest release, I'm just around to help. Take care always.
